GENUINE BEAUTY!

1 Peter 3:4 – Devotional

1 Peter 3:4

“Beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit is very precious in the sight of God.”

A dear friend once forwarded a prayer request from a deeply distressed daughter. Her mother was facing serious medical issues and her father was giving loving care to his precious wife of many years. This daughter said that her dad still thought his wife was the most beautiful woman in the world, regardless of her age and physical condition.

As I read those words I thought back to the last days of my wife, Joyce. Her frail little body required much attention. She could hardly move and her mind had difficulty staying focused. In spite of all that, she was to me the most beautiful woman in the world.

Why was that? It was the inner beauty that Jesus had given her. Joyce never was one that enjoyed the spotlight. She was shy by nature, but her gentle and quiet spirit cared about people and she ministered in her own quiet way.

Many flashy females (MEN AS WELL!), movie stars, pile on the make-up to make themselves look glamorous. In a very short time that outer façade wears off and they lose their appeal. Truly godly people get more attractive as the years pass us like a parade. God’s Genuine Beauty is what we should strive to attain.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

JESUS IS HERE! – Matthew 14:25 Devotional

JESUS IS HERE!

Matthew 14:25 – Devotional

Matthew 14:25

“Just before dawn, Jesus came to them, walking on the water.”

For those of us who have worked the night shift, the night seems to be the darkest just before dawn. It is also the most boring time. Then you see the first streaks of dawn, and it becomes the most delightful. First a rim of gold appears on the eastern horizon, then a burst of light as the sun rises for the day.

The disciples of Jesus knew what a dark and stormy night on the water was like. They had perhaps even feared for their lives in previous storms. Now they experienced total shock — Jesus came walking on the water toward their boat!

Peter had no doubt been in storms like this before, but never had he experienced someone walking on the water. It was his Lord, suddenly he no longer felt afraid. In fact, he wanted to go to Jesus on the water. Peter was the only man besides Jesus who ever walked on water. But taking his eyes off the Lord and fearing the water caused him to begin to sink, but when he took the Master’s hand, he once again walked on the water to the boat.

When you are laboring in the darkest hours of your personal night, you may feel stark terror. Remember you are not alone. Jesus is there in your darkness, ready to keep you from sinking. Our critical problem is looking at the water instead of the Master who walks on the water. We need to focus our attention on Him, He will keep us from sinking!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S WONDERFUL REST! – Matthew 11:28 Devotional

GOD’S WONDERFUL REST!

Matthew 11:28 – Devotional

Matthew 11:28

“Come to Me, anyone who is tired and world-worn, and I will give you rest.”

Across the years I have been blessed to counsel many people. One of the most common complaints I have heard is “I’m so tired.” In a way it has been humorous since they complain that they are so tired they need a vacation, and when they return from vacation they are exhausted from the vacation.

It rather reminds me of counseling people who are having marital problems. There will be boxes of tissues to dry the tears of those who wish they had never gotten married. Later, another person will cry their eyes out because they are not married and wish they were.

The human body is capable of performing amazing feats of stamina. The way athletes run long distances and accomplish their acts of endurance is by training. Little by little, day by day, they grow stronger and stronger until they can perform without the fatigue that once plagued them.

In today’s Scripture Jesus gives us the spiritual prescription for our weariness: Come to Him! The reward for following His direction is deep and abiding rest.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OUR GRACIOUS LORD! – Psalm 89:14 Devotional

OUR GRACIOUS LORD!

Psalm 89:14 – Devotional

Psalm 89:14

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Loving kindness and truth go before your face.”

Perhaps you have heard the story of a young girl who was totally absorbed in drawing a picture. All of the other students had finished their art work, but she was still working feverishly at her picture.

When her teacher asked what she was drawing, she said she was drawing a picture of God. Taken aback, her teacher told her it was impossible to draw a picture of God since no one knew what He looked like. The small child looked confidently at her teacher and replied; “They will when I am finished!”

Wow! What confidence! In reality, she was very close to the truth. We live out the picture of God by the manner in which we live our life. In fact our actions show forth the reality of God in our life.

The question that we must always carry with us is just how well we represent the reality of our living Lord to a sin-sick, lost and dying world. Is the picture of the Lord that we are living out one that will draw people to know Him?

I may fail at many things, but above all else, I want my life to radiate with the glorious essence of Jesus living and active in my soul!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
