THERE IS A FOUNTAIN! – Zechariah 13:1 Devotional

THERE IS A FOUNTAIN!

Zechariah 13:1 – Devotional

Zechariah 13:1

“On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This Friday we have a special treat for you. Russ Hansen has combined AI and Scripture to produce an original song entitled, “There is a Fountain” with words written by William Cowper (1731-1800). Russ would appreciate your feedback at inspiration@thegoodbookcompany.com.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

There Is a Fountain (William Cowper, 1772-1800)

There is a fountain filled with blood,
Drawn from Immanuel’s veins,
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains:
Lose all their guilty stains,
Lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see
That fountain in His day;
And there have I, though vile as he,
Washed all my sins away:
Washed all my sins away,
Washed all my sins away;
And there have I, though vile as he,
Washed all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
Shall never lose its pow’r,
Till all the ransomed church of God
Are safe, to sin no more:
Are safe, to sin no more,
Are safe, to sin no more;
Till all the ransomed church of God
Are safe, to sin no more.

E’er since by faith I saw the stream
Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be till I die:
And shall be till I die,
And shall be till I die;
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be till I die.

When this poor, lisping, stamm’ring tongue
Lies silent in the grave,
Then in a nobler, sweeter song,
I’ll sing Thy pow’r to save:
I’ll sing Thy pow’r to save,
I’ll sing Thy pow’r to save;
Then in a nobler, sweeter song,
I’ll sing Thy pow’r to save.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

KNOWN BY THE LORD! Psalm 139:1 – Devotional

KNOWN BY THE LORD!

Psalm 139:1 – Devotional

Psalm 139:1

“Lord, You have searched us and know us inside and out yet You love us still.

From time to time we have lunch with a friend to celebrate their birthday. As we review the menu, we are faced with many appealing choices. We know that no matter what we chose it will be delicious; but will it be good for us? Ah! That’s a different story isn’t it?

From time to time we all are called upon to make choices. As a matter of fact, we are faced with choices each and every day. Some of these choices are relatively insignificant (such as what to order off a restaurant menu) while others could be life changing.

The Israelites had seen the powerful hand of the Lord lead them from their bondage in Egypt to possess the Promised Land. You would think that they would never want to turn their back on God, but they did! Why? Because they yielded to Satan, who tempted them with temporal things that pass away.

I have no idea what temptation you are facing right now in your life, but I urge you to make the right choice and, like Joshua, choose to serve the Lord!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

THE LORD KNOWS US! Psalm 139:1 – Devotional

THE LORD KNOWS US!

Psalm 139:1 – Devotional

Psalm 139:1

“Lord, You have searched us and know us inside and out yet You love us still.

It is heart rendering to experience betrayal by someone whom you had trusted as a close and intimate friend. I do not necessarily mean that in a romantic connotation, although that may be the case.

Across the years of our life we encounter those special individuals who become a vital part of our existence. We give ourselves to them and anticipate that they will reciprocate that same devotion to us.

It is when those close comrades in faith and friendship leave us high and dry that we have the opportunity to feel a fraction of the pain the Lord feels when one of His children violates His trust.

The greatest news for those of us who fall short in our efforts to serve Him completely, is that He knows our faults and failures and loves us still. That is the God we serve! God knows us better than we know ourselves yet He still loves us with an eternal, ever-lasting love!

Spend a few minutes right now just praising Him for loving us, who need His love even when we do not deserve His love. That is also how we must love others!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

LET HIM BE OUR AIM! Ephesians 3:21 – Devotional

LET HIM BE OUR AIM!

Ephesians 3:21 – Devotional

Ephesians 3:21

“To Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

I have two cousins who are expert marksmen. One of them once explained to me that each of us has a dominant eye that may or may not be the same as whether we are left or right handed. For example, both cousins are right handed, but shoot by sighting with their left eye.

The Bible repeatedly calls us to look to Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith. In today’s Scripture Paul admonishes his readers to focus their attention TO HIM. That means making the rational decision to focus our aim at the target of our faith, which is to obey His Word.

In a world that is increasingly cluttered with things that draw our attention away from the spiritual realm, it is vital that we stop and take careful aim at the things that will matter for eternity. We know that the things of this world grow strangely dim as we focus on His glory and grace.

What are you aiming at? If you have no target in mind, you will find yourself lost in the frustrating confusion of life. If you direct your attention TO HIM, you will find that He is worthy of all of your efforts. TO HIM!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

AMMUNITION AGAINST SIN! Psalm 119:11 – Devotional

AMMUNITION AGAINST SIN!

Psalm 119:11 – Devotional

Psalm 119:11

“Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

I seem to recall playing a game of hide and seek when I was a boy. It is getting harder and harder to recall anything that long ago, but times of fun and games are delightful morsels in my memory.

The discipline of memorizing God’s Word always produces rich dividends. It seems that each time I have memorized a portion of Scripture something occurs that causes that portion to come alive.

As I have grown older I find it harder to memorize God’s Word, but at the same time I find it more rewarding and a comforting. I have been rewarded every time I use God’s Word when I go to Him in prayer.

I encourage you to commit right now to memorize today’s Scripture from Psalm 119:11. This can be a verse you can take with you the rest of your life and into eternity. It certainly gives us a valid reason to hide His Word – IT IS POWERFUL AMMUNITION TO USE IN OUR BATTLE AGAINST SIN!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
