OUR REASON FOR LIVING!

Philippians 1:21 – Devotional

Philippians 1:21

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

A proud father was introducing his four-year-old daughter to his boss, the Mayor of the city. The young girl was known to be precocious, but her father thought she would be awed as she was introduced to this high city official.

As the Mayor bowed down and politely extended his hand to the young girl, he said, “Hi, I am the Mayor.” The young girl looked straight into his eyes and asked, “Why?” The Mayor was stunned to silence by the question and quickly moved on to the next group of constituents.

Back in his office the Mayor mulled over the girl’s innocent question. He was a Christian and was left to ponder the wisdom that this young child had confronted him with. Why was he doing the things he did? He always tried to be the best person and the best Mayor he could be, but was that enough?

As he bowed and began to pray, Philippians 1:21 entered his memory. That was the answer! He had to live for Christ in the words he spoke and in the things he did. In that quiet moment in his office, the Mayor determined that he would have an answer to why he did what he did . . . it would be to honor and glorify Jesus. Why do you do the things you do?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

TRUST AND REST! – Psalm 37 Devotional

TRUST AND REST!

Psalm 37 – Devotional

Trust and Rest (inspired by Psalm 37) – download mp3

Psalm 37:3-7a

Trust in the Lord and do good;
Live in the land and cultivate faithfulness.

Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

“He will bring out your righteousness as the light,
And your judgment as the noonday.

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”

This Friday we have a special treat for you. Russ Hansen has combined AI and Scripture to produce an original song entitled, “Rest & Trust” with words inspired from Psalm 37. Russ would appreciate your feedback at inspiration@thegoodbookcompany.com.

Trust and Rest (inspired by Psalm 37)

[Verse 1]
Trust in the Lord and do what is good,
Dwell in the land, be faithful and true.
Feed on His faithfulness day after day,
He will provide all you need on the way.

[Pre-Chorus]
He is enough, His promise is sure—

[Chorus]
Trust in the Lord, delight in His way,
He gives your heart what words cannot say.
Commit every step, every plan, every test,
Roll it on Him and learn how to rest.
Trust in the Lord, delight in His name,
He’ll bring it to pass, He’ll do what He claims.
Be still, wait on Him, don’t strive or contest—
Trust, delight, commit, and rest.

[Verse 2]
Delight yourself in the Lord Most High,
He shapes your desires, refines what you try.
Hope rises up when your joy is in His truth,
He writes His purpose deep into you.

[Pre-Chorus]
What He has spoken, He will perform—

[Bridge]
Commit your way unto the Lord,
Lean not on what you see,
He will bring your righteousness to light,
Like dawn upon the sea.
He lifts your cause like the noonday sun,
Clear, faithful, and confessed—
So quiet your soul, be still before Him,
And enter into His rest.

[Final Chorus]
Trust in the Lord, delight in His way,
He holds tomorrow and walks with you today.
Commit every burden, each worry confessed,
Lay it before Him and rest in His rest.
Be still, wait on Him, don’t fret or resist—
His timing is perfect, His promise exists.
Let go, lean in, be calm and blessed—
Trust, delight, commit, and rest.

[Outro]
Be still before the Lord…
And wait patiently for Him.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BE STILL! Psalm 46:10 – Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

BE STILL!

Psalm 46:10 – Devotional

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Do you have a quiet place, a place far away from the stress and turmoil of life to just be still as you read God’s Word? This quiet place should be more than a physical location; it should be a spiritual oasis. We can experience quietness and peace even in the midst of the battles of life. We know what our battlegrounds are; what we need is peace!

Sometimes we may observe groups frenziedly waving placards promoting peace. More often than not these are the very people who cause conflicts and dissention. As far as I know, they seldom, if ever, establish peace.

The Lord desires for us to enter into a blessed stillness with Him. It may require a commitment on our part to find the time and place where we can experience Him in serenity as we pray and read His Word.

We can hear the Lord call to us from today’s passage of Scripture: “Be still, and know that I am God.” If we fail to take the time to be alone with God, we will never experience the knowledge of His Lordship in our life. Open your Bible and read in silence. Listen for the quiet voice of the Lord whispering peace and blessing within your inner being. Learn to be still.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
