LORD, YOU KNOW BEST! – John 14:1 Devotional

LORD, YOU KNOW BEST!

John 14:1 – Devotional

John 14:1

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

D. L. Moody tells a heart warming story/lesson that his young daughter learned and in turn he did too . . .

“One of the sweetest lessons that I have learned since I have been in Christ’s school is just to be submissive, and let him choose for me. I tell him what I want, but when I get through, I like to say, “Now, Lord, You know best, Thy will be done.”

I learned a lesson once from my little girl. She was always teasing me for a great big doll. She had a lot of dolls around the house without heads, some without arms, some without legs, but she wanted a great big doll.

You know if a man has an only daughter he is rather soft and they find it out … so she was determined to get that big doll. One day I had a good streak come over me, and I took her to a toy shop to get her a doll, but as we went in the door she saw a basket of little China dolls. “Oh Papa, isn’t that the cutest little doll you ever saw?”

“Yes, yes.”

“Well, won’t you buy it?”

“Well, now, Emma, let me choose this time.”

“Oh, no, Papa; I just want this little doll.”

I paid a nickel for the doll and took her home.

After the newness had worn off, the doll was left with all the others.

I said, “Emma, do you know what I was going to do that day when I took you into the toy shop, and you selected that little China doll?”

“No, Papa.”

“Well, I was going to buy you one of those great big ones.”

“You were? Why didn’t you do it?”

“Because you wouldn’t let me. You remember that you wanted that little doll, and you would have it.”

The little thing saw the point, and she bit her lips and did not say anything more. From that day to this I cannot get her to say what she wants. When I was going to Europe the last time, I asked her what she wanted me to bring her, and she said, “Anything you like.”

It is far better to let God choose for us then to choose for ourselves. “Thy will, not mine, be done.”

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

SUFFERING! – Philippians 1:12 Devotional

SUFFERING!

Philippians 1:12 – Devotional

Philippians 1:12

But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel.

In February 2011, I was lying in a hospital bed attached to tubes and gadgets that emitted strange beeping sounds all around; I had just undergone triple by-pass heart surgery. Lying there helpless, I recall thinking I needed to be about the work of the Lord. Why am I here? Does God know what He is doing?

Yes! God did know what He was doing, and the lessons I learned during that medical emergency remain with me today. God places us in difficult situations to give us the opportunity to shine brightly with His love and grace.

The apostle Paul was one of the greatest champions of the faith the world has ever known. We might be tempted to feel that God would make the way easier for such a faithful servant. Instead, Paul endured beating, stoning, lashing, shipwreck, and imprisonment in prison after prison. In fact, he wrote the letter to the Philippians from a prison cell.

We need to look around us and use our circumstances to be a good witness for Jesus. Do others see Jesus in you when you suffer?!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

LET ME EXPAND! – 1 Chronicles 4:10a Devotional

LET ME EXPAND!

1 Chronicles 4:10a – Devotional

1 Chronicles 4:10a

And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me.”

Have you ever poured out your heart to the Lord asking that He would enlarge your territories? Are you content to creep toward retirement when you could be catapulted into creative ministry?

From time to time people that I have not seen for awhile will ask me how I am enjoying retirement. I have to laugh since I am more active in ministry now than at any other time: Pastoring a small congregation, writing DailyEvotionals that are emailed worldwide, authoring several books, counseling, and other ministries as they arise. I just do what God sets before me to do.

Several years ago I began to pray the prayer of Jabez. I cannot begin to describe how the Lord has answered this prayer. Not only has He given me a worldwide ministry, He keeps opening new doors.

I challenge you to join in praying this prayer of Jabez. Let the Lord God give you a unique ministry that will be designed by Him just for you. I can assure you right now that you will never want to retire!

Blessings dear hearts! May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OUR FAITHFUL FRIEND! – Psalm 118:24 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

OUR FAITHFUL FRIEND!

Psalm 118:24 – Devotional

Psalm 118:24

A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Being alone is a sad and dismal position. We really do need each other and a friend is one of the greatest possessions we can have. Thinking back across the years of my life, I have been blessed with a wealth of friends. Some of those friends have gone on to be with the Lord, but some are still alive.

I once received a precious gift from a dear friend. Here is what it says: “A friend is one who knows you as you are, understands where you’ve been, accepts who you’ve become, and still gently invites you to grow. Cecil, Thanks for being that friend. Chris.”

As close as our dearest friend or friends may be, we have a friend who is still closer. Of course I am speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the One who is with us at all times. We are never really alone when others have departed, for He stays with us during the dark hours of the night.

When we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, He is there beside us. When we receive devastating news, He is there to provide the comfort and solace to ease the pain. When we receive news that calls for rejoicing, He makes it even better for we have One who rejoices with us. At all times, and in every circumstance, our Dearest Friend makes our life worth living.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
