OH LOVE THAT WILL NOT LET ME GO!

1 John 3:1 – Devotional

1 John 3:1

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are!”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Read through these lyrics by George Matheson in the beautiful beloved hymn, Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

O Love that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

O light that foll’west all my way,
I yield my flick’ring torch to thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.

O Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.

REPENT AND LIVE! – Ezekiel 18:32 Devotional

REPENT AND LIVE!

Ezekiel 18:32 – Devotional

Ezekiel 18:32

For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!

Most of us have loved ones who have rejected the Word of God and choose to walk in rebellion to the God’s offer of eternal life. What should our reaction be and how should we respond to these individuals?

I think the best example we have on the situation is the family of Jesus. If ever there were siblings that should have eagerly followed the faith of their parents and older brother, it should have been Jesus’ own family. The truth of the matter was that they did not come to faith until after His death and resurrection.

Jesus’ own siblings rejected Him as their personal Savior until after His resurrection. As the Son of God and Savior of the world Jesus saw this, but from the human perspective Jesus had to deal with unbelieving family members.

The answer is that Jesus lived His faith all the way to the cross and beyond. It is far too easy for us to drive our loved ones away from us by a continual barrage of sermonizing. We should rather love them into the Kingdom of God by our faithful walk with the Lord. Watch for opportunities to lead others to the Lord. You may be the answer to another’s prayer.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

SEEK GOD FIRST! – Proverbs 8:17 Devotional

SEEK GOD FIRST!

Proverbs 8:17 – Devotional

Proverbs 8:17

I love them that love Me; and those that seek Me early shall find Me.

Sadly I have heard the expression; “When all else fails, try the Lord.” In fact He is the first One we should seek and we should seek His presence continually all through the day and night!

The world is full of self-proclaimed gurus who have all the answers. It is tragic that our so-called Public TV stations carry program after program of such nonsense that give a hint of special insight (if you purchase their book or product).

Rather than succumb to the siren call of the world we need to spend quality time reading God’s Word. Rather than going to the Word as a last result, we need to feed on it first thing in the morning, all through the day and just before sleep.

I leave us with a favorite passage from Proverbs 3:5-6. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths!”

Let this portion of God’s Word lead and guide you throughout your day!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BE OTHERS MINDED! – Philippians 2:3 Devotional

BE OTHERS MINDED!

Philippians 2:3 – Devotional

Philippians 2:3

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourself.

If someone asked you to describe who you were, what would you say? Without using titles, educational degrees or financial standing, what are the qualities that describe you? What makes you the person you are?

In today’s Scripture Paul boldly suggests that some people do good works for selfish motives. Their objective is to accomplish things so people will think highly of them. If they are not appreciated they feel that they are failures.

Others feel if they attain a particular objective, they would have arrived. It usually is only a short period of time before they realize that “arriving” is not what they had expected. It only left them feeling empty.

Paul gives the solution to the problem. BE OTHERS MINDED! Make it our aim to consider others more important than our self. It often will involve doing for others who will never be able to return the favor. Now is the time for self examination. “Who are you?” Are you doing acts of righteousness only to please the Lord or in order to gratify yourself?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

LET JESUS BE SEEN! – Proverbs 3:5-6 Devotional

LET JESUS BE SEEN!

Proverbs 3:5-6 – Devotional

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with your whole heart and do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways give God the credit, and He will direct you..

Day after day and year after year I sit here at my computer and make a valiant attempt to find the right words to touch some person who stands in need of that very word.

It reminds me that I am not responsible on who reads the words that the Lord places in my heart, I only place my complete trust in the Lord and allow Him to direct the right words to the right person at the right time.

It sounds simple when I write it like that, but in reality I most often feel I fail to get the word across the net to the one who needs it. From the very first I have prayed that one person will be touched by what the Lord enables me to write.

My encouragement to each reader is to place your trust in the Lord. Make it your aim to pass the good news of salvation to those around you. Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in and through you!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
