WE ARE SPECIOUS!

Ephesians 2:10 – Devotional

Ephesians 2:10

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

There is no such word as specious but it rings with sweet memory in my mind. It goes way back when our grandson, Jeremiah was just learning to talk. My wife, Joyce, had been telling Jeremiah that he was special and that he was also precious. Jeremiah grinned and said; “I am specious!”

I think it is accurate (if not grammatically correct) to say that in God’s sight we are indeed; SPECIOUS! Worldly people may mock us and be-little us because of our walk with the Lord, but we need to remind ourselves of the heroes of the faith who have endured mockery, abuse, torture, and even death for the sake of Christ. They were specious!

God has never promised His followers an easy or pleasant life. In fact He has told us to expect to be reviled, persecuted, and rejected. In response to this treatment we are to rejoice and be exceedingly happy. Why? Because we are God’s specious people!

Go out into the world and let your light so shine, that people will be lifted from their pit of despair into the reality that God offers anyone who will to come to Him and be made specious by His saving grace!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

HE IS WITH US! – Isaiah 41:10 Devotional

HE IS WITH US!

Isaiah 41:10 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Yesterday I received an email from a friend I met over 50 years ago. We met in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, where I served in the US Air Force and he served in the local hospital. Roy met a nurse named Jean and they immediately felt that God was drawing them together. Several years after I returned to the States they were married and had a family.

In his message, Roy informed me that Jean had slipped the bonds of this old world and gone to be with the Lord. In the days preceding her death Jean said she had seen the face of Jesus twice. Wow! There need not be any fear of death! What comfort to know that the suffering of this world is nothing knowing that our Savior is waiting for us on the other side.

I have imagined the meeting that took place in Paradise when Jean and my Joyce met for the first time, yet knew each other as if they were sisters. Actually they were sisters in the Lord. We have a wonderful family that we will spend eternity with and some we will meet for the first time when we leave this world. Jesus is with us and will be there to welcome us home! We need never fear death.

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

OUR GLORIOUS APPEARANCE! – Colossians 3:4 Devotional

OUR GLORIOUS APPEARANCE!

Colossians 3:4 – Devotional

Colossians 3:4

“Christ is our life and when He makes His glorious appearance, then those of us who have been born again will also appear with Him in glory.”

The husband of my oldest cousin was a source of joy and delight. As I think back of all of our encounters with Don, there was laughter and spontaneity. He seemed to write the book on what was to be expected. If you had plans to meet for breakfast at 7:00 a.m., he was just as likely to be by to meet you at 5:30 a.m. Ouch!

My wife, Joyce, and I always looked forward to the times when we were close enough to spend times with Don and Betty. We left their company feeling like we had experienced pure joy and delight.

The Scripture for today points to the day when Christ will make His glorious appearance. We are told that we will be with Him. In other words we will also make a glorious appearance. Not because of our own merits, but because of our Savior and the fact that we are His precious possession.

I rise each morning and open God’s Word to drink in the promises that He has given to make my life meaningful and complete. One day I will accompany our Lord and all His saints as we make our glorious appearance. What a day that will be!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

WHY DON’T YOU? – Galatians 3:2-3 Devotional

WHY DON’T YOU?

Galatians 3:2-3 – Devotional

Galatians 3:2-3

“This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?”

I can almost remember my childhood days. Believe me they are far back in my rear view mirror. One thing I do recall is having arguments with either my brother or other kids and using the phrase; “Why don’t you?” The reply was usually; “Well, why don’t you?”

Unfortunately this same argument is often carried into married life. Many times I have tried to counsel couples who seem to be stuck in the same childhood rut of argumentation. It never seems to resolve their problems.

I have tried to counsel couples who are caught in this whirlpool of conflict to replace the phrase with, “How can I?” What a difference it makes to offer to make a change in one’s own life rather than demanding the other person make a change.

This is even more significant when it comes to our relationship with God. Let’s face it, there many times when we want God to do the changing. We pray that same question; “God why don’t You?” We want God to do the changing to meet our own desires. If we truly accept what Paul is writing in today’s Scripture, we will be prepared to ask Him, “Lord, how can I?”

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
