WE ARE LIKE SHEEP!

Isaiah 53:6 – Devotional

Isaiah 53:6

“We have all strayed and like wayward sheep gone our own willful way. But the Lord has laid on Him the sin that is rightfully ours.”

While attending college I worked on the local police department. There was an old veteran officer that frequently could be heard to utter these words: “The more I see of people, the more I think sheep are smart animals.” At the time I thought he was being crass and cynical, but more and more I tend to agree with his assessment.

Our natural inclination is to stray and go our own willful way. The Good Shepherd of our soul has tender love and care for us. No matter how often or how far we stray away from God’s care and protection, He is always concerned about us and tenderly cares for us. It is not what we deserve, but what we need!

How far have you personally wandered away from the Lord? Are you like a lost and wandering sheep that has strayed away from the Good Shepherd to seek the bitter weeds of sin and strife?

The fantastic news is that Jesus came into this old sinful world to save the lost sheep that are lost and are in danger being swallowed up by the vicious wolves of sin and strife. Return to Christ’s fold. He eagerly awaits your return!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER! – Philippians 4:4-6 Devotional

SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER!

Philippians 4:4-6 – Devotional

Philippians 4:4-6

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

William Walford did not allow the fact that he was blind limit his service for his Lord. He was frequently called upon to preach in a small country church. He composed the sermons in his head and also was able to quote large portions of Scripture from memory. Some people thought he had memorized the entire Bible. He also composed verses as the Lord laid the words upon his heart. Above all—he was a man of prayer.

In the mid 1800(s), Thomas Salmon was visiting in England and became acquainted with Pastor Walford. As they were visiting one day the blind pastor quoted a few pieces he had composed. Since he had no one to write them down he had kept them treasured in the storehouse of his mind.

One of the verses he related to Mr. Salmon was, Sweet Hour of Prayer. Mr. Salmon eagerly scribbled the words down on a scrap of paper. When he returned to New York he sent the verses to the Observer and asked if they thought them worth preserving. The Observer did think them worthy and published them on September 13, 1845. The music was added by William Bradbury in 1861.

SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER

1. Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne, make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief;
and oft escaped the tempter’s snare by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

2. Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
of those whose anxious spirits burn, with strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place, where God my Savior shows His face,
and gladly take my station there, and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

3. Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! Thy wings shall my petition bear
to Him whose truth and faithfulness, engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face, believe His Word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my every care, and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

4. Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! May I thy consolation share,
till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height, I view my home and take my flight:
This robe of flesh I’ll drop and rise, to seize the everlasting prize;
and shout, while passing through the air, Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!

LEAD ON LORD JESUS! – Romans 8:18 Devotional

LEAD ON LORD JESUS!

Romans 8:18 – Devotional

Romans 8:18

“I consider the sufferings and trials of this of this sin-sick world are not worth worrying about when we consider the glory that waiting for us.”

In the past few weeks I have spent a considerable amount of time in a dental chair. As I enter the dental office I have a good idea of the ordeal that awaits me, but the alternative is poor dental health. I endure the pain in order to receive the reward.

Many years ago I had a dental appointment in Ontario, Oregon. The dentist asked if I wanted deadening or not. I thought he was kidding, but he was serious. He explained that he never used Novocain and he survived to live another day!

I thought if he could do it, so could I. Dental professionals think I am either brave or crazy. I just keep them guessing which is true. The fact of the matter is that pain is more fear of what might hurt than what actually hurts.

I have no idea what the Lord will bring across my path in the days that lie ahead for me. It really does not matter for I know that He will be right there beside me each step of the way. LEAD ON LORD JESUS!
