O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL! – Luke 2:15 Devotional

O COME, ALL YE FAITHFUL!

Luke 2:15 – Devotional

Luke 2:15

“When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.'”

The beloved Carol “O Come, All Ye Faithful” was originally written in Latin (Adeste Fideles). The words were written by an Englishman, John Wade who had originally intended it as a hymn.

The music to “O Come, All Ye Faithful” was composed by fellow Englishman John Reading in the early 1700s. In 1841, Rev. Frederick Oakley revised the lyrics of “Adeste Fideles”.

While it would be an appropriate hymn at any time of the year, it has become a cherished Christmas Carol. Let us all come and adore, Christ the Lord.

O Come, All Ye Faithful

1. O Come All Ye Faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him, born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

2. O Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation,
Sing all that hear in heaven God’s holy word.
Give to our Father glory in the Highest;
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

3. All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning,
O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

ONLY ONE LIFE! – Isaiah 55:6 Devotional

ONLY ONE LIFE!

Isaiah 55:6 – Devotional

Isaiah 55:6

“Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.

Many people think the phrase “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last” is in the Bible. It is not. It was part of a poem by missionary C.T. Studd who served the Lord in China, India, and Africa. He not only left us this poem, but his work for Christ will last throughout eternity.

The reality is that our life flies past at such a pace that we always need to be alert to the opportunities the Lord gives us to reach the lost world. It is tragic that so many people spend their time, talent, and energy on things that will pass away. These temporal things may seem so important at the time, but are they done for HIM?

We cannot make decisions for others, but we can live our lives in such a manner that our decisions will have a positive impact on others. We do that by constantly keeping the prayer line open with God. We must always seek His will.

I want to leave today’s message with a favorite verse that applies to this subject. It is Psalm 19:14: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” I pray that this will become your guide in the days the Lord gives you.

Blessings dear hearts. May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BLESSINGS TO THE LORD! – Psalm 103:1 Devotional

BLESSINGS TO THE LORD!

Psalm 103:1 – Devotional

Psalm 103:1

“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!

When my wife Joyce and I were high school seniors, Joyce was crowned Homecoming Queen. I can still picture her sitting in the gymnasium on a make-shift throne along with her court. The crown on her head signified that she had been voted Queen of our student body.

The position carried no monetary rewards and on the following Monday the other students did not bow to her. She was just the same Joyce Harper as she had been before the coronation.

Our present-day society suffers from a short supply of love and mercy. It seems more and more that we live in a dog-eat-dog world. Even Christians seem to be caught up in the struggle to get ahead regardless of the needs of others.

My sweet “Homecoming Queen” might have surrendered her crown after that night so long ago, but she has received a far greater crown from the Lord. She had the qualities of love and mercy as a gift from God and went to be with Him almost nine years ago. She now has a crown that will last for eternity!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

LOVE AS CHRIST LOVED! – Ephesians 5:25 Devotional

LOVE AS CHRIST LOVED!

Ephesians 5:25 – Devotional

Ephesians 5:25

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.

What determines a life of success? For some it may be achieving great prominence or a lofty promotion. I once experienced a little taste of that kind of success when I was elected Student Body President in high school. (Okay, it was a very small high school.)

As a youngster I was blessed to receive words of praise from both my grandfather and my father; they always let me know that they were proud of me. I have also received words of love and devotion from each of my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The words that struck closest to my heart were some of the final words my precious wife of 62 years spoke before going to be with the Lord. With tears in her eyes, she reached out her frail hand to softly touch mine and said, “Honey, you are love personified!”

Husbands, fathers, all of you men who read this, I beg you to stop trying to be a rock in the garden of life and become fertilizer. Die to yourself in order that your life can become the source of growth in others. Become love personified!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
