PETITION POSTPONED!

Luke 1:13 – Devotional

Luke 1:13

“But the angel said to him: ‘Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.’

If you are anything like me, you are impatient to receive answers to prayers. I once heard a speaker at a pastor’s conference share his personal frustration with his prayer petitions. It seemed that every time he prayed for someone to be healed they would die soon after.

One day a member of the pastor’s congregation called and asked him to come pray for the Lord to take her very ill father home. The elderly man was in a coma and the doctors had given up any hope for his recovery. The pastor was delighted at the request since most of those he had prayed to be healed had died — this was what he specialized in. After he prayed for the Lord to take the old saint home to heaven, the man made a miraculous recovery and lived for several more years.

Like the three Hebrew men who faced a blazing furnace, they were confident in a God who was able to protect them from the vicious flames. But even if He didn’t they would trust Him just the same. Our petitions may be postponed until later in our life, or even into eternity, but thank God for the assurance that He knows what He is doing and we can trust Him completely!

Blessings dear hearts. May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

ARE WE THERE YET?! – Matthew 24:33 Devotional

ARE WE THERE YET?!

Matthew 24:33 – Devotional

Matthew 24:33

“So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors!

“Are we there yet?” is one of the most common questions children ask their parents when the family is traveling to a particular destination. We could be in the middle of the desert with no signs of humanity anywhere when that question would pop up. I must confess that I have been tempted to stop the car in the middle of a barren area and announce: “We are here!” I wonder what they would have said.

As we travel through the desert places of this life we often are prone to ask ourselves the same question our children asked of us: “Are we there yet?” The answer for us may very well be the same as we gave our kids: “Look around you. Do you think we are close?”

The honest answer in our own life is that we are getting nearer and nearer each day. This is true in at least two ways: The first is that we never know when our heart will stop and we will be transported to the Paradise of God; the second is that the trump will sound and we will be raptured to be with the Lord forever.

In either case, we need to work with all of our ability to perform the tasks that the Lord has prepared for us to accomplish. Rather than being impatient for His return, we simply need to be faithful until He calls us to our forever home!

Blessings dear hearts. May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

KELLY’S! – Hebrews 13:8 Devotional

KELLY’S!

Hebrews 13:8 – Devotional

Hebrews 13:8

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Back when I was eight or nine my parents owned a café in Camas, Washington, called Kelly’s. I have many fond memories of spending time in and around that place. Sometimes I would help the dish washer, but in reality was more hindrance than help.

Years after we had moved away from Camas I always wanted to drive by and see if Kelly’s was still open. I had told my wife Joyce about it enough times that she was no doubt tired of hearing my stories. A day came when I took a trip down memory lane with Joyce. We were able to find my family’s old house and the old church where I had given my heart to the Lord, but my heart saddened when we saw the building where Kelly’s had once been. It was now an insurance agency. Rats!

There were other instances where we tried to find some favored spot only to discover the use had changed and it was entirely different from the way we remembered. It is disappointing to have the buildings of our past change, but it is heart breaking to discover that some people have changed for the worse.

In today’s Scripture we are urged to stay the course and walk in such a way that our life will be an example to others. Jesus is always the same and that is the rock upon which we are to build our life.

Blessings dear hearts. May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OH NO! – Galatians 3:23-24 Devotional

OH NO!

Galatians 3:23-24 – Devotional

Galatians 3:23-24

“Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith.

Way back in 1953 I walked into an Air Force Recruiting Station and was met by a Sgt. Swift. He told me of the positive features available if I enlisted; I trusted him and enlisted. But that is not the end of the story — ten years later I had received my college degree and a commission in the Air Force.

My first assignment was at the training base where I had attended Officers Training School. As I looked out over the personnel that I now supervised, guess whose name I saw — Sgt. Swift! His first response was, “Oh no!” We had a good laugh about how things had changed, and he was glad that he had been honest during our first meeting.

One day we all will appear before the Judge of the universe. Every single thought or deed will be revealed. I am sure Satan will try to bring up every sinful thing in our past, but when we have confessed our sins and received Jesus into our hearts, we need not fear. Jesus was born in Bethlehem to pay the price for our sins. He has done what we could never do! Praise the Lord we never have to say, “Oh no!”

Blessings dear hearts. May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
