THERE IS A FOUNTAIN!

John 4:13-14 – Devotional

John 4:13-14

“Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’”

Not only is Olympia, Washington, the State Capitol, but there is also another significant claim to fame. In the 400 block of 4th Avenue is an artesian well. People are able to fill containers of this pure cool water. It is a fountain flowing freely.

The composer of this week’s hymn is William Cowper. He was born in England in the year 1731. He suffered many personal losses during his early years that caused him much mental anguish. Loss after loss of those that were close brought him to the brink of despair.

Through all of his ordeals the Lord kept drawing him. He finally received Jesus as his personal Savior and began writing hymns and poetry. It is fascinating that he lived in a small house just behind the home of his pastor, John Newton, who wrote the wonderful hymn, Amazing Grace. Thank the Lord for the fountain of redeeming blood that cleanses us from all of our sin.

. . . . . . . .

THERE IS A FOUNTAIN!

There is a fountain filled with blood
drawn from Immanuel’s veins
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains

The dying thief rejoiced to see
That fountain in his day;
And there may I, though vile as he
Wash all my sins away

Dear dying Lamb, thy precious blood
Shall never lose its power
Till all the ransomed church of God
Are saved, to sin no more
For since by faith I saw the stream
Thy flowing wounds supply
Redeeming love has been my theme
and shall be till I die

When this poor lisping,
stammering tongue
Lies silent in the grave
Then in a nobler, sweeter song
I’ll sing thy power to save

. . . . . . . . . . .

CLEAN HANDS AND PURE HEART! – James 4:8 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

CLEAN HANDS AND PURE HEART!

James 4:8 – Devotional

James 4:8

“Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

If You Knew Suzie, was a popular song back in the 1900’s. I had never really paid attention to a particular line from that song, but it is spiritually revealing: “She goes to church each Sunday, to sing and praise the Lord; but then come Monday she’s as busy as a Ford.” I have no idea what “busy as a Ford” implies but it’s not spiritual.

Sadly the pattern of many people is to act “spiritual” when around “church” people, then live like the world the rest of the time. God is never pleased with our double-mindedness.

The common practice of calling sin by some other name is unacceptable. Sin is sin and God hates sin. We are to confess our sin and allow Him to bring forgiveness and cleansing. Then we are to turn from our former ways and follow Him. This is the only way to get rid of the double-mindedness that plagues the church of Jesus Christ.

James 4:7 gives the necessary steps in submitting to God and resisting the devil! When we resist the devil, James says he will flee from us. We resist the devil by submitting to and focusing on God! Let God deal with him!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

WE NEED NOT FEAR! – Psalm 23:4 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

WE NEED NOT FEAR!

Psalm 23:4 – Devotional

Psalm 23:4

“Yes, even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I have no fear of evil, for You are with me; Your rod and staff comfort me.

Many years have flown by since I sat beside the hospital bed of my eldest daughter, Brenda Joy, and read psalm after Psalm at her request. It seems as if I repeated Psalm 23 more times than any of the others and she always asked me to read again and again.

Her breathing became increasingly shallow and then she sweetly slipped from this veil of tears and pain to be with her Lord and Savior. What those final moments are to those of us who have experienced the second birth!

Today would have been Brenda’s 67th birthday. I doubt she is celebrating the date of her physical birth, but each moment in Paradise she is praising the Lord for her spiritual birth and the eternity she has before her!

Believers do not need to fear the moment of our physical death. The saints of God have often seen a glimpse of glory as they departed this world, and their reports reveal that we have a glorious home waiting for us. We need not fear the valley of the shadow of death for our Lord is with us continually!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

HE IS ALL WE NEED! – Psalm 37:39 Devotional

HE IS ALL WE NEED!

Psalm 37:39 – Devotional

Psalm 37:39

“The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble.

Many of us who have traveled with children in the car remember the constant refrain from the back seat, “Are we there yet?” Hearing this over and over again can quickly become a source of irritation.

In the same way we expect God to act upon our requests on our schedule rather than on His. Joseph or Job are excellent examples of what it means to wait upon the Lord.

If God hears our prayer (and He does), why does it take so long for us to see the results? Certainly the element of timing may be involved, but we need to understand that we are part of God’s perfect plan at work.

Just because we do not receive answers in our timing does not mean God does not hear us, or that He is unconcerned about us. Remember that He is in absolute control and in His time the answer will come. Our part is to remain faithful and keep our eyes on Him, not on our request. “HE IS ALL WE NEED!”

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

SOMEONE CARES! – Galatians 5:13 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

SOMEONE CARES!

Galatians 5:13 – Devotional

Galatians 5:13

“Dear brothers and sisters, we have been called to enjoy liberty, but we must never use our freedom to obey the flesh, but rather to serve each other.

Thinking back across almost ninety years of my life, I am stunned by the degree society has seemingly become more self-centered and greedy. Don’t get me wrong, the heart of man (and woman) has always been sinful by nature, but it seems to be increasingly so.

I think we as born again believers have a calling, as never before, to live our lives in such a way as to serve others in the manner in which the Lord Jesus would have us serve.

For that to happen, we of necessity must begin each day by talking to the Lord. Open your Bible and also your heart. Prepare yourself to receive your marching orders for the day, then go out to fight the fight of faith!

Perhaps the best way to fight the fight of faith is to consciously be aware of ways to aid and assist others. That may be by a gift, a word of encouragement, or simply a smile. The important thing is to let someone know that someone cares!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
