WE WIN! – 1 Corinthians 15:56 Devotional

WE WIN!

1 Corinthians 15:56 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 15:56

“The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

People delight in being on the winning side. I have yet to hear anyone cheer when their team is losing. It is a cause for celebration when a person wins a position over the other applicants who have also applied for a certain job.

In this sin-sick world it may feel like believers are on the losing side. The forces of evil seem to become stronger and more violent with each passing day. It may even appear that God is not concerned when we encounter suffering and loss.

As we read today’s Scripture, we discover that we are on the winning side. It is not because of what we do, but what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us. It may be compared with relaxing in the stands while your team struggles on the field. When your team wins you stand and cheer, “WE WON!” You may have done nothing more strenuous than eat a bag of popcorn, but you share in the team’s victory.

As believers we have been assured of victory. It is not because of anything else we have done to merit the victory other than trusting in Jesus for salvation. Victory is ours! We win!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

A RIGHTEOUS PRAYER! – 1 Chronicles 4:10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

A RIGHTEOUS PRAYER!

1 Chronicles 4:10 – Devotional

1 Chronicles 4:10

“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request.

Working for the Lord has never been easy. When God enlarges our territory of service we need more and more of His strength. It is impossible to really do His work without His blessing and power.

Jabez asked the Lord to enlarge his territory. His prayer was not to be sent to some other territory, but that his sphere of influence would be multiplied. The Lord heard that sincere prayer and so will He hear our honest prayer.

It is not what we do for the Lord that makes the difference, but what the Lord does in and through us. John the Baptist was a powerful preacher of truth who called sinners to repent, but his real mission was to announce the arrival of Messiah!

Two thoughts I would like to share from my experiences: Never look at others as being insignificant. Let them know they are not alone. Realize that nothing is insignificant to the Lord. Charge into the task He has given you and allow Him to slay the giants that stand in the way of the work of the Lord.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BENEATH THE CROSS OF JESUS! – 1 Corinthians 1:18 Devotional

BENEATH THE CROSS OF JESUS!

1 Corinthians 1:18 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 1:18

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

The second verse of the hymn, Beneath the Cross of Jesus says, “Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see the very dying form of One who suffered there for me; and from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess: the wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness.”

Here are all the lyrics for verses 1 and 3:

Beneath the cross of Jesus
I fain would take my stand,
the shadow of a mighty Rock
within a weary land;
a home within the wilderness,
a rest upon the way,
from the burning of the noontide heat
and the burden of the day.

I take, O cross, thy shadow
for my abiding place:
I ask no other sunshine than
the sunshine of his face;
content to let the world go by,
to know no gain nor loss;
my sinful self my only shame,
my glory all the cross.
