PLANTED BY GOD’S WATER!

Jeremiah 17:8 – Devotional

Jeremiah 17:8

“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when the heat comes.”

Someone has observed that happiness is the result of something good or pleasing happening, but joy is the choice a person makes in spite of what happens. Many people appear as if they had been “baptized in vinegar.” For Christians, this way to act is a terrible witness to non-believers.

I have said it before and I will say it again; “The way we live is far more effective than what we say.” I do not want to imply that we are not to share our faith with others, but it also needs to be reflected in how we live.

All too often we have seen prominent religious figures that were vocal supporters of holy living, sadly to be exposed participating in the various sinful practices they have preached against.

I would like for each of us to prayerfully answer the following questions: If Jesus was standing beside us, would He be pleased with the things we say? The music we listen to? The programs we watch on television? The things we read? The activities we engage in? The people we associate with? This could go on and on couldn’t it? I pray that we will plant our roots deep in His Word!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

SPIRITUAL WATER! – Jeremiah 17:8 Devotional

SPIRITUAL WATER!

Jeremiah 17:8 – Devotional

Jeremiah 17:8

“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when the heat comes.”

Many of you know that I frequently visit the Western Wall in Jerusalem. I do not visit in person, but rather use the internet to view the wall. The images are updated every few minutes, so it is very current.

The wall is constructed of multi-ton stones that have very little space between each other. Jerusalem is a very dry region and there is very little precipitation. In spite of the lack of rain, the plants continue to grow out of the wall.

They are able to survive because they have roots that travel deep into the crevasses that exist in the wall. I am told that there are at least six distinct plants that grow out of the wall.

I am reminded that sometimes we may feel that we have been planted where little spiritual nourishment is available. But wait! There is! It is to be found in the crevasses of the Word of God. He has given us the spiritual water that will sustain us in the dry and arid world in which we live. Praise God for the water of life that is able to cause us to grow!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

A REAL STINKER! – Joel 2:20b Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

A REAL STINKER!

Joel 2:20b – Devotional

Joel 2:20b

“His stench will come up, and his foul odor will rise, because he has done monstrous things.”

When I was a boy my dad decided to dig a basement. Now when I say he was going to dig a basement, I mean that literally. He made a hole in the foundation and began digging in the dirt under the house. Before long he needed to find a better way to remove the dirt, so he installed a conveyor. What a man!

Things had gone very well until one night we heard a noise coming from the partially-dug basement. Dad carefully opened the door to see who or what it was. Unfortunately, it was a skunk that had found its way into the new hole under our house. By the time the culprit was removed the stench was eye-watering.

We find ourselves in the same sort of predicament in our modern world. There has been so much putrid sin that it raises a stench that reaches to heaven.

Sadly, some modern day churches have ignored the Word of God and allowed the “skunk” of perversity to enter. Listen — if God says it is sin, it is sin. Stay away from it!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

THE REAL REASON! – Luke 10:20 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

THE REAL REASON!

Luke 10:20 – Devotional

Luke 10:20

“Rejoice that your name is written in heaven.”

Think back about the times when you felt that a miracle had taken place in your life. In fact, just remember the times when you rejoiced because God had protected you as you made a long journey with no accidents or incidents.

Certainly we are to rejoice in all things, but as I read this passage in Luke 10, I am wondering if we focus too much attention on specific answers to prayer. If we see God at work in a particular situation, we jump and shout for joy. But if we do not experience that same sort of answer we tend to ignore God’s blessings.

Jesus is tells His followers the real reason for us to rejoice is that we have our name written in heaven. Our most fantastic blessing is that we receive eternal life the moment were born again. We experience another great blessing when we share our faith with someone who opens their heart to the Lord.

There are times we witness to someone and feel them reject our testimony. It no doubt causes us to feel discouraged. Days, weeks, months, even years later and thousands of miles away, that person can feel the tug of the Holy Spirit and remember what we shared with them. Only eternity will reveal the fruit of our faithful ministry. Hang in there, faithful believer. Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning! Praise the Lord!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
