AND CAN IT BE? – Romans 5:8 Devotional

AND CAN IT BE?

Romans 5:8 – Devotional

Romans 5:8

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

In this week’s featured video devotional, And Can It Be?, Charles Wesley sums it all up beautifully when he says, “Amazing love! How can it be that Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?” Take a moment to read through the rest of these lyrics carefully and listen to this worshipful piano rendition by Linda Hightower.

And Can It Be? – Charles Wesley (1707-1788)

And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

’Tis mystery all! The Immortal dies!
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love Divine!
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness Divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

I WILL KEEP GOD’S WORD! – Psalm 119:34 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

I WILL KEEP GOD’S WORD!

Psalm 119:34 – Devotional

Psalm 119:34

“Lord, teach me Your will and Your way for my life and I will follow You to the end. Give me understanding and I will keep Your law faithfully.”

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. The Psalmist pens this Psalm in the form of a prayer beseeching the Lord to be our teacher. Each section is introduced by a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. I am told that Jewish youth had to memorize the entire chapter. Containing 176 verses, that was no easy task.

It is interesting to dig a little deeper into the meaning of the word FOLLOW. In the Hebrew it means to keep guard and protect. That gives us a much clearer meaning of what the writer is seeking from the Lord.

When I was a boy, or even a grown man in graduate school, I was required to apply myself to gaining knowledge. I am afraid I fell short many times. Regardless of my failures I was exposing myself to the things my instructor endeavored to teach me.

As we read this Psalm of prayer to the Lord, it is important to make it our own prayer. Our part is to listen to the Lord as He teaches and then to keep, guard, and protect His Word, with our whole heart.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BE FULL OF CHEER! – John 16:33b Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

BE FULL OF CHEER!

John 16:33b – Devotional

John 16:33b

“In the world you will experience tribulation; but be full of cheer, for I have overcome the world!”

I have thrilled as I have listened to the Gaither’s sing their song, “Because He Lives.” This has been especially true during the times when I stood at the graveside of those who have been the dearest to me.

For the believer, when we say farewell to our believing loved ones, it is not an “eternal good bye,” it is more appropriately a, “until we live eternally in glory, you will live fondly in the storehouse of my memories.”

For the true believers in the Living Lord Jesus, we have a glorious reunion waiting for us in Glory. The precious experience of seeing our loved ones again will only be surpassed by seeing our Lord and Savior who gave Himself for us!

We need to reflect the cheer of being the redeemed of the Lord. Jesus has given us the precious gift of eternal life. For the believer, physical death is a farewell to this sin-sick world and hello to an eternity full of cheer!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD IS IN CONTROL! – Isaiah 41:10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD IS IN CONTROL!

Isaiah 41:10 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“Do not be afraid, I am with you! Do not be depressed, I am your God! I will give you strength and I will give you help. I will hold you securely in the right hand of My righteousness.”

It is a fact that none of us will go through life without conflicts. We live in a fallen world and the enemy of our soul is a master of deceit. He delights in causing the children of God to become discouraged and defeated in their ministry.

We must always remember that the end for Satan has already been determined. That does not mean he gives up. Oh, no! He delights in shrouding us under a cloud of fear and confusion.

Our answer is not in our own strength; we will never be strong enough. It is not in how much we know; we will never be smart enough. It is not how sincere we are; it is possible to be sincerely wrong.

The answer is in yielding our will to the will of God and resting in the truth of His Word. That requires us to spend more and more time in our Bible and applying the truth of the Word to our walk. Trust in His Word and live a life that will bring you peace that passes all understanding!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

ALWAYS LOOK UP! – Luke 21:28 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

ALWAYS LOOK UP!

Luke 21:28 – Devotional

Luke 21:28

“Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

It seems that every day we hear of more and more tragedies. There are natural disasters and also violent attacks that leave scores dead and badly injured. Just when it seems that things could not get worse, they seem to do just that.

What should be our reaction to the violence and chaos around us? I think we have at least two choices: We can look around us and become increasingly depressed, or we can look up and see that God is the Blessed Controller of all things. We should always look up!

In Luke 21, Jesus mentions the things that will precede His return and the end of the age. He does not want us to be burdened with the evil that forebodes, but rather to visualize the glory that awaits the redeemed of the Lord.

Jesus instructs us to focus our attention on what is waiting for us rather than what is around us. That means we are to LOOK UP! We need to remind ourselves to focus our attention in the right direction. We do what we can to fulfill the command of the Lord, and then we LOOK UP and worship the One whom we serve. Where are you looking?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
