REJOICE IN THE LORD!

Philippians 4:4 – Devotional

Philippians 4:4

“Always rejoice in the Lord. I repeat, rejoice in the Lord continually!”

We have far too many church members who look like they have just lost their last friend. They not only have sour expressions on their faces, they have sour personalities to match.

Paul repeatedly urges his readers to rejoice. The word he uses for rejoice is the Greek word chaírō. It is pronounced khah’-ee-ro, and it means to be joyous and happy. That means looking like you are happy. If you have the joy of Jesus in your heart, you need to let your face know about it and show it!

For those who have never placed their trust in Jesus Christ as the Lord of their life, there is little or nothing to be happy about. The things of this earth grow dimmer and dimmer as life slips away.

As true believers who have passed from death to eternal life by confessing we are sinners and accepting the blood of Jesus to pay the price for our sin, we are able to rejoice. The things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

MY REDEEMER LIVES! – Job 19:25 Devotional

MY REDEEMER LIVES!

Job 19:25 – Devotional

Job 19:25

“I know that my Redeemer lives, and in the end He will stand on the earth.”

Yesterday I read a report of a Christian pastor in India who was chained in the center of a busy intersection and all through the day in the blistering heat of the tropical sun he was beaten, kicked, and ridiculed for his faith in Christ. Only by the grace of God did he survive the ordeal.

His experience has been repeated countless times across the centuries. Many times It is through suffering for Christ that the reality of the gospel penetrates the bitter heart of the persecutor or persecutors.

The book of Job is a wonderful study in how the suffering servant of Christ can endure horrible afflictions with total trust in the trustfulness of the Lord. Even when it appears that He is not near, the Word of God assures us that He is always beside us.

Regardless of what you may happen to be going through now or in the coming days, be assured dear heart that our Redeemer lives and not only that, He is with us in every trial we encounter. Praise His blessed name!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

LIVING FOR CHRIST! – Philippians 1:21 Devotional

LIVING FOR CHRIST!

Philippians 1:21 – Devotional

Philippians 1:21

“As for me, I choose to live for Christ, and to die is to be with Him.”

I have heard and even preached sermons on living for Christ. Sadly I have seen many people make a miserable mess of their life by failing to follow through on this commitment. The lure of the world is like the siren’s call that inevitably leads to the rocks of destruction.

That leads me to ask the question: Whose call are you listening to? There are many temptations that surround us and in this era of modern media we seem to be swamped by the tempter’s call.

As a pastor I have listened to far too many broken hearted cries from good people who made tragic choices and found their lives ruined by the choices they had made.

The good news is that Christ did not die for good and noble people. He died for sinners and the Word tells us we are all sinners. We constantly need Him to cover our sinful self with His blood. It is only the shed blood of our Savior that rescues us from power of sin and death! Not what we do, but what He has done for us! To live for Christ is to receive eternal life!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

HANG ON WITH JOY! – Revelation 2:25 Devotional

HANG ON WITH JOY!

Revelation 2:25 – Devotional

Revelation 2:25

“Hold fast to what you have until I come.”

I fondly recall my days of youth when we all looked forward to snow and slick streets. Motorists dreaded these streets then as they still do in our day and age. One of the reasons the young people loved slick streets was hooky-bobbing. The adults frowned upon the practice, but tolerated the practice since they could recall when they did the same thing when they were young.

There were shrieks of laughter as we slid along the snow-packed streets for as long as possible. The ride generally took us only a block or so. Most motorists seemed to enjoy it as much as we did, but there were a few sour souls who vented their spleen on our fun-filled delight!

As I think on it I realize there are many people in today’s world who seem to take offense when the people of God enjoy the joy of their salvation. They seem to feel that the walk with the Lord should be filled with doom and gloom.

I take delight in breaking the bubble of such an attitude. Across the centuries the people of God have been the most joyous people on earth. Even those who have been persecuted have suffered with joy. Regardless of the trials you are going through right now – – HANG ON WITH JOY!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
