GOD’S PROMISE OF PEACE! – John 14:21 Devotional

GOD’S PROMISE OF PEACE!

John 14:21 –  Devotional

John 14:21

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

We live in an increasingly frightening world! I am sure you do not need me to remind you of that fact. We increasingly are exposed to twisted human reasoning where right is considered bigotry and sinfulness is exalted as the new normal!

It is in the craziness of this present age that I am reminded of a passage of Scripture I memorized as a boy. It is Isaiah 41:10: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

These two passages: John 14:21 and Isaiah 41:10, give us assurance that it is only the Lord who can give us absolute assurance of peace. It is a peace that the world it can never give and a peace it can never take away. It is God’s promise of peace!

BE GLAD IN THE LORD! – Psalm 64:10 Devotional

BE GLAD IN THE LORD!

Psalm 64:10 –  Devotional

Psalm 64:10

“The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.”

When I was a boy (a very long time ago) we attended a church that had many colorful members. Some were happy and others usually looked like they had been baptized in vinegar!

I must confess that I tried to stay as far away from the vinegar people as possible. Come to think about it, I seldom saw anyone spend time with them. It was usually just them standing alone and looking mad at the world.

I think it was at that time that I determined I would try to emulate the joyous and happy Christians. As much as I could I would look like I was on my way to my glorious home in heaven, rather than the other way around!

It is question and answer time! What image do we project to those around us? Do we live a radiance that comes from knowing our sins are forgiven and we are on our way to heaven, or are we vinegar people and cause others to wonder where we are headed? BE GLAD IN THE LORD!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

THE LORD’S HOUSE! – Matthew 21:13 Devotional

THE LORD’S HOUSE!

Matthew 21:13 –  Devotional

Matthew 21:13

“And He said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

I recall an incident that occurred many years ago. (At my age it seems that most of my recollections occurred many years ago). Following the evening service I was standing in the center aisle of the church speaking with the pastor and a friend.

Suddenly my friend’s young son came toward us doing somersaults. My friend was shocked and began to apologize to the pastor. I will never forget as the pastor responded; “Let him alone. It’s time we see some life in this church!”

He was just kidding (I think), but sometimes I feel like many of our churches are congregations of the frozen chosen. I am not advocating undisciplined displays, but there needs to be a sense of life and vitality in our worship.

If Jesus came into our services today, would He be pleased or would we be find Him calling us to remember that we are in His presence and thus we need to be holy for He is holy! May the words of our mouth and meditation of our heart always be acceptable to Him!

THE GOOD AND PERFECT GIFT! – James 1:17 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

THE GOOD AND PERFECT GIFT!

James 1:17 –  Devotional

 James 1:17

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

I must confess that when it comes to selecting gifts, I am a complete and utter failure. My wife, Joyce was the one who always seemed to be able to select just the right gift for each and every person.

In today’s Scripture, James introduces us to the ultimate and perfect gift. It is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. James was the earthly half-brother of Jesus and did not come to faith until after the resurrection of our Lord. But the time was not what was important, but that he received the good and perfect gift!

We who have been born again have the privilege of offering this supernatural gift to a lost and dying world. People around us may scoff and belittle the claims of Christ, but the truth stands firm and true, Jesus Christ is the One and only answer to the sin problem.

God’s gift is good and perfect, but like every other gift, it only has value when it is received and opened. Share this priceless gift with others in order that they might discover that it is the ultimate gift that will last for all eternity!

NOTHING WAVERING!

James 1:5-6 –  Devotional

James 1:5-6

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”
