{"id":7362,"date":"2019-11-28T06:00:05","date_gmt":"2019-11-28T14:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyevotional.com\/prior2020\/?p=7362"},"modified":"2019-11-29T08:51:25","modified_gmt":"2019-11-29T16:51:25","slug":"choose-to-be-thankful-1-thessalonians-518-devotional","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyevotional.com\/prior2020\/choose-to-be-thankful-1-thessalonians-518-devotional\/","title":{"rendered":"CHOOSE TO BE THANKFUL! &#8211; 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Devotional"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>I Thessalonians 5:18<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #c40000;\"><strong><em>\u201cIn<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being thankful is not, or at least it should not be, a once-a-year thing. As members of God\u2019s family we are to be thankful at all times.\u00a0\u00a0It is not our prerogative to choose when or what we will be thankful for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In today\u2019s Scripture, Paul admonishes the church at Thessalonica (as well as all of us) that we are to give thanks in everything. Do you frequently look as though you have been baptized in vinegar? That, my dear friend, is not being continually thankful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul also encourages believers to pray continually. That brings us to another embarrassing question: How is your prayer life? Are you continually speaking to the Lord in prayer? It is a discipline that we need to pursue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The last admonition in line with today\u2019s theme is that the Lord expects us to thank Him in all circumstances. Chew on that while you are munching on your sumptuous dinner.\u00a0\u00a0What if you had little or nothing to eat? Would you still give thanks?
