{"id":6659,"date":"2019-01-14T06:00:41","date_gmt":"2019-01-14T13:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/devonline.us\/daily-e-votional\/?p=6659"},"modified":"2019-01-14T10:48:30","modified_gmt":"2019-01-14T17:48:30","slug":"create-thirst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyevotional.com\/prior2020\/create-thirst\/","title":{"rendered":"CREATE THIRST!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Mark 9:50<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c40000;\"><em>&#8220;Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?\u00a0\u00a0Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I once heard this wonderful illustration about motivating someone:\u00a0<em>While it is true that you can lead a horse to water, you can\u2019t make him drink. But,\u00a0<strong><u>you can salt his oats<\/u><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Some of us in Christian ministry wear ourselves out trying to force people to &#8220;drink&#8221; (spiritually) when they show no inclination and, in fact, flatly refuse.\u00a0\u00a0We heap on guilt or glitter, but there are still no slurping sounds. What is the answer?\u00a0SALT THE OATS!\u00a0\u00a0Right!\u00a0\u00a0How do we do that?\u00a0\u00a0It is a good question and deserves careful consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Salt is a very valuable mineral and has served many purposes throughout centuries.\u00a0 It is used to preserve food, to season foods, and even for its medicinal qualities. In Roman times the soldiers were even paid in salt, which is where the word \u201csalary\u201d came from.\u00a0 If you&#8217;ve heard that odd expression that someone &#8220;is not worth his salt,\u201d it refers to the payment in salt that a soldier received.<\/p>\n<p>With this bit of information in mind, in what way can we become &#8220;salty&#8221; Christians? Have you ever been in a room full of people and acted like you were yawning?\u00a0\u00a0Do you know what happens?\u00a0\u00a0Others start yawning themselves.\u00a0\u00a0Perhaps you could say that you \u201csalted\u201d the yawn reflex.
