Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>O God, Our Help in Ages Past,<\/em>\u00a0is a hymn by\u00a0Isaac Watts\u00a0and\u00a0paraphrases\u00a0<em>Psalm\u00a090<\/em>. It originally consisted of nine stanzas. In present usage, however, the hymn is usually limited to stanzas one, two, three, five and nine.<\/p>\n<p>The hymn was originally part of\u00a0<em>The Psalms of David Imitated in the Language of the New Testament<\/em>, published by Watts in\u00a01719. It has often been sung for special occasions in\u00a0England. It was sung in\u00a01941,\u00a0at a religious service on board\u00a0HMS Prince of Walesattended by\u00a0Winston Churchill\u00a0and\u00a0Franklin Delano Roosevelt\u00a0as part of the conference creating the\u00a0Atlantic Charter. It was also sung at the funeral of Winston Churchill in 1965.<\/p>\n<p>Later composers subsequently incorporated the tune in their own works. For example,\u00a0George Handel\u00a0used the tune in an anthem entitled,\u00a0<em>O Praise the Lord<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>O GOD, OUR HELP<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>IN AGES PAST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>O God, our help in ages past,<br \/>\nOur hope for years to come,<br \/>\nOur shelter from the stormy blast,<br \/>\nAnd our eternal home.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Under the shadow of Thy throne<br \/>\nThy saints have dwelt secure;<br \/>\nSufficient is Thine arm alone,<br \/>\nAnd our defense is sure.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Before the hills in order stood,<br \/>\nOr earth received her frame,<br \/>\nFrom everlasting Thou art God,<br \/>\nTo endless years the same.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>A thousand ages in Thy sight<br \/>\nAre like an evening gone;<br \/>\nShort as the watch that ends the night<br \/>\nBefore the rising sun.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The busy tribes of flesh and blood,<br \/>\nWith all their lives and cares,<br \/>\nAre carried downwards by the flood,<br \/>\nAnd lost in following years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>O God, our help in ages past,<br \/>\nOur hope for years to come,<br \/>\nBe Thou our guide while troubles last,<br \/>\nAnd our eternal home.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Blessings dear hearts.
