John 21:17-22 – Devotional

John 21:17-22

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep . . . Follow me!”

Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them . . . When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”

Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow Me.”

Peter said, “Lord, I will follow You to death,”
But fear took hold and silence stole his breath.
Three times he swore he’d never known Your name,
Then heard the rooster cry and felt the weight of shame.

But mercy walked beside the waves of Galilee,
A risen Savior calling softly, tenderly.

“Follow Me!” You said it once again, “Follow Me!”
“Follow Me!” to a heart so full of pain. “Follow Me!”
When we fail You, when we wander,
Still Your grace will never flee.
Hear Him whisper to your soul:
“Follow Me!”

By the morning charcoal fire You asked him, “Do you love Me?”
Three times the question healed what once had been his grief.
You restored the one who fell, You pulled him from despair,
And called him to Your side with love beyond compare.

And still today Your voice is calling faithfully,
To every wounded heart in need of mercy’s plea.

“Follow Me!” You speak it once again,

Have you promised you would stand, yet lived in quiet apathy?

Yet denied Him by the choices you have made each day?
Still His kindness reaches out — restoring lovingly,
And to your trembling heart He says,

Leave the shadows, leave the failures — step into His victory.
