THINK RIGHT IN AN UN-RIGHT WORLD!

Romans 12:3 –  Devotional

Romans 12:3

“For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself (or herself) more highly than (they) ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.”

FAITH! – Romans 5:1-2 Devotional

FAITH!

Romans 5:1-2 –  Devotional

Romans 5:1-2

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”

If grace is not a blue eyed blonde, neither is faith a brown eyed brunette. Perhaps the best way to describe what we read here in Romans chapter 5 is faith in the completed works of Christ is the means by which we find peace that surpasses all.

There is no way we can be saved by doing anything. All of our works are nothing but filthy rags before a righteous and holy God. It is total dependence on the free gift He offers that matters.

The thief on the cross next to Jesus never accomplished a single righteous act that assured him of eternal life, other than a plea for Jesus to remember him when He (Jesus) came into His kingdom, Can you just imagine the scene later that day when the thief died and awoke in Paradise and saw Jesus as the Savior of the world! WOW!

Faith in the trustworthiness of God’s Word allows us to live our life to the full and eagerly anticipate the joy that awaits us when we enter our eternal home with all of the saints of God who we will meet in glory. Faith opens our eyes to what God has waiting for us in glory.

REASONABLE SERVICE! – Romans 12:1 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

REASONABLE SERVICE!

Romans 12:1 –  Devotional

Romans 12:1

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

In this crazy, mixed up, and sin sick world it is sometimes difficult to determine what is reasonable. What was once abhorrent is now the norm and what was once the norm is now narrow minded, provincial, and mean spirited. I wonder who could be behind this point of view. Could it be Satan? RIGHT!

God calls us to His living examples even when it hurts. I recall hearing of a young brother, who had a rare blood type, who was asked to donate some of his blood to save the life of his sister who had the same rare blood type.

At first the brother was hesitant, but he loved his sister and even though he was fearful, he finally agreed. As he lay on the table waiting for the doctor to draw his blood and transfuse it into his sister, he asked; “Doctor, how long before I die?”

I wonder what it would be like if we as believers in Jesus were willing to put our fear aside and begin to live a life in which we were prepared to die for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Give Christ our reasonable service!

FILL ME UP! – Romans 15:13 Devotional

FILL ME UP! – Romans 15:13 Devotional

Romans 15:13

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

Back in my teen age years I worked at a gas station. Those were the days when the gas station attendant would not only pump your gas, but clean the windows check the oil and radiator levels. It was after all a service station.

I was always glad when a customer asked that I fill her up. That meant I was not required to keep an eye on the pump if a customer only wanted a few dollars worth of gas.

All too often we approach the Lord’s filling station and ask for only a partial filling. We are not committed to receiving all that He has prepared to fill our spiritual tanks with. As a result we frequently find ourselves running on empty.

I don’t know about you, but it seems like we live in perilous times when we need to keep our spiritual tanks filled. That means spending quality time in God’s Word and communing with Him in prayer. FILL ME UP LORD!

One Year Bible Reading for June 7th:

    • Psalm 125:1-5

TWO CHOICES! – Romans 8:5 Devotional

Romans 8:5

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”

As a young man I was often faced with a choice: Go to the library and study OR go for a walk in the park with a beautiful girl I had fallen in love with. (I usually chose the walk!)

I am always amazed at how simple the things of God are … and yet they are so difficult that it seems impossible to ever attain them. Paul expresses his own frustration with trying to fulfill God’s requirements when he agonizes, “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?” (Romans 7:24).  His answer was, and still is, Jesus.

What we set our minds to achieve are the things that become the magnet for giving direction to our life. We will find the direction from the Lord when we choose to follow after the Lord.

Paul sets before us two ways of behaving: God’s way OR the way of the flesh. When we are honest we know the ways of the flesh lead to death, here and for eternity. God’s way leads to eternal life. I choose God’s way!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

CONFORMITY! – Romans 12:2 Devotional

Romans 12:2

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Just because we observe others acting or re-acting to a situation in a certain way does not mean that it is true. I once taught a college class and wanted to demonstrate the danger of relying on the response of others. I thoroughly washed a perfume bottle and completely purged it of any odor. I reminded the class that it was dangerous to rely on the responses of others. I was now about to catch them off guard.

I instructed the students to raise their hands the moment they could smell the perfume. Before class I had enlisted several students to assist me in the test. I asked them to sit in the front row and raise their hands after twenty to thirty seconds.

After twenty seconds the students I had enlisted to help me began to raise their hands.Soon everyone on the front row had their hands up, then the second row, and then several in the third row. I stopped the lecture and asked them what fragrance they thought it was? They finally agreed that it was floral and probably lilac. The students were stunned as I passed the bottle of pure water around and they discovered that there was no perfume and that they had responded because others had responded.

There are many religious leaders who are leading the faithful away from the pure Word by their charismatic personalities and the hoopla surrounding a polished production. We must never let this happen! There must never be a compromise with anything or anybody who deviates from the pure Word!

Blessings dear hearts!  Walk with God today and be a blessing!
