MORE THAN CONQUERORS!

Romans 8:37 – Devotional

Romans 8:37

“In all things we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us.

Perhaps you have heard the story of a man asking his friend, “How are you doing?” The friend responds, “Pretty good, under the circumstances.” The first man then asks, “What are you doing under there?”

It is safe to say that we are all going to be faced with the circumstances of life. It may be financial, social, physical, or any other type of circumstance. You may have already encountered adverse circumstances in the past, or they may be waiting for you in the future.

Please do not feel depressed or hopeless. We serve a God who not only knows our every pain, but He has suffered infinitely more than we will ever have to endure. Our hope is expressed in today’s Scripture: “In all things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

Look up, dear hearts … our redemption draws near! Trust in Him with all your heart and keep on praising Him for our eternal reward that awaits us in eternity!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

SHOW THE LOVE OF JESUS! – Romans 12:10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

SHOW THE LOVE OF JESUS!

Romans 12:10 – Devotional

Romans 12:10

“Be kindly affectionate to each other with brotherly love. In honor showing preference to one another.

As a pastor, I have frequently confronted adults who still carried the trauma of their early years. My precious wife carried some of those scars. She often recalled a boy who treated her very cruelly. Ironically, when I became a pastor in Burns, Oregon, that boy, now a man, was a member of our church.

Joyce had a difficult time overcoming the memories of the things he had said and the way he had mistreated her. One of the things that perplexed her was that he did not recall his harmful actions and acted nonchalant about it.

It is also true that sometimes people do not actually say the hurtful words, but laugh when belittling words are spoken. Their laugh has the effect of bringing that person into the area of guilt. We might say guilt by association.

God calls each of us to show a spirit of blessing and praise. We do that by our actions as well as by our words. Look for God-given opportunities to show forth the love of Jesus to those hurting hearts we encounter.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GREET ONE ANOTHER WITH JOY! – Romans 8:16 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GREET ONE ANOTHER WITH JOY!

Romans 8:16 – Devotional

Romans 8:16

“Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ greet you.”

During the dark days of disease and pandemic, social distancing has created a sense of isolation and hopelessness. I think this delights Satan and gives him a way to separate us from those who would give us hope in the Lord.

Thank God we live in a time when we can contact each other easily by telephone, e-mail, and numerous gidgets, gadgets, and gizmos. When all else fails we get up off our do nothing and meet in person.

I am thrilled to open my home each week to our small home church. But that is not enough. All throughout the week there is contact between members by means of the devices I have just mentioned.

The device we may use to touch the life of those around us is not the important thing. It is the joy of Jesus that bubbles up within us and gives us the reality that as part of the family of God, we have deep and abiding joy that satisfies the deepest longing within our heart. I want to encourage each of us (me included), to greet one another with joy as often as possible!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

AND CAN IT BE? – Romans 5:8 Devotional

AND CAN IT BE?

Romans 5:8 – Devotional

Romans 5:8

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

In this week’s featured video devotional, And Can It Be?, Charles Wesley sums it all up beautifully when he says, “Amazing love! How can it be that Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?” Take a moment to read through the rest of these lyrics carefully and listen to this worshipful piano rendition by Linda Hightower.

And Can It Be? – Charles Wesley (1707-1788)

And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

’Tis mystery all! The Immortal dies!
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love Divine!
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness Divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
