OUR TRUE CITIZENSHIP!

Philippians 3:20 – Devotional

Philippians 3:20

“Our citizenship is in heaven, from which we eagerly await our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

I reside in Tumwater, Washington, however my zip code is the same as Olympia, Washington. There are instances where a person’s place of residence is in an area that shows a different location than where they actually reside.

There are certain localities in the world where a person’s residence is nearer a town or city in another nation. One road, river, or railroad can make a distinction as to how an address is determined.

When I was stationed in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, Canada, I had a mail box with a Canadian address. Mail sent to that address came to me, but I was not a Canadian citizen. I was only a temporary resident.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ we are citizens of heaven. We may have a temporary address here in this world, but our forever home is celestial and eternal. I frequently find myself homesick for a place I have never been, but I will reside there forever and ever. That is my real citizenship!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OUR REASON FOR LIVING! – Philippians 1:21 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

OUR REASON FOR LIVING!

Philippians 1:21 – Devotional

Philippians 1:21

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

A proud father was introducing his four-year-old daughter to his boss, the Mayor of the city. The young girl was known to be precocious, but her father thought she would be awed as she was introduced to this high city official.

As the Mayor bowed down and politely extended his hand to the young girl, he said, “Hi, I am the Mayor.” The young girl looked straight into his eyes and asked, “Why?” The Mayor was stunned to silence by the question and quickly moved on to the next group of constituents.

Back in his office the Mayor mulled over the girl’s innocent question. He was a Christian and was left to ponder the wisdom that this young child had confronted him with. Why was he doing the things he did? He always tried to be the best person and the best Mayor he could be, but was that enough?

As he bowed and began to pray, Philippians 1:21 entered his memory. That was the answer! He had to live for Christ in the words he spoke and in the things he did. In that quiet moment in his office, the Mayor determined that he would have an answer to why he did what he did . . . it would be to honor and glorify Jesus. Why do you do the things you do?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OTHERS! – Philippians 2:3 Devotional

OTHERS!

Philippians 2:3 – Devotional

Philippians 2:3

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit,
but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

We live in a dog-eat-dog world that glorifies individual desires above the concern to serve others. Self-help gurus stress the importance of glorifying self regardless of what others think or feel. The message of the cross is one of self-sacrifice for the benefit of others.

It is interesting that we do not have to learn self-centered behavior. We come into the world kicking and screaming to be fed or changed at any and all hours of the day or night. We can tolerate that behavior in infants, but sadly we have grown adults that still express that same behavior.

I am sad to say that we have Christians who also display this pattern of life. They are not so much interested in serving others but in having others serve them. I am always impressed by Stephen who was chosen to serve tables set for widows and orphans. That did not restrict him from preaching the cross and led his being able to give his life for the sake of Christ. May we all live for Christ and for others!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and be a blessing!

HIGHER GROUND! – Philippians 3:14 Devotional

HIGHER GROUND!

Philippians 3:14 – Devotional

Philippians 3:14

“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

This week’s inspirational video devotional features scenes from Yellowstone National Park and the encouraging words of Johnson Oatman, Jr. in his hymn, Higher Ground.

HIGHER GROUND

I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining ev’ry day;
Still praying as I’m onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith, on heaven’s tableland;

A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith, on heaven’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught a joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith, on heaven’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

I want to scale the utmost height,
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till heav’n I’ve found,
“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith, on heaven’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

JOYCE’S PURSE! – Philippians 4:19 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

JOYCE’S PURSE!

Philippians 4:19 – Devotional

Philippians 4:19

“My God shall supply all your need by His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

This would have been the 89th birthday for my precious wife, Joyce. One of the most endearing memories I have of my wife was her purse. Her purses only came in sizes large and super large. We teased her about the size of her purses, but you know what? When we needed a band-aid, aspirin, sewing kit, tweezers, scissors – – I think you get the point. Joyce’s purse was the source of supply.

When I recall my many years of walking with the Lord, He has always been my source of supply. When I am weak He is strong. When I travel through the valley of grief He has supported me. When I have felt attacked, He has been my strength.

It is interesting to read today’s Scripture and discover that God has promised to supply all of our need. That does not automatically mean He will supply all of our WANTS. Many times our wants are not what is best for us. In fact our wants may be harmful to our spiritual or even physical well being.

The answer to discovering a strong spiritual balance is to stay close to the Lord and allow Him to supply everything we need to be effective servants. He goes before us and knows what we will need to before we even ask Him. “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:6

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
