RIGHT PRIORITIES! – Matthew 6:33 Devotional

RIGHT PRIORITIES!

Matthew 6:33 – Devotional

Matthew 6:33

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

This passage of Scripture is part of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus has just given what we know as the Beatitudes, or what we might call the Divine blessings. Jesus teaches us about our everyday needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. He warns that we can get the wrong priorities in our life if we only focus on those issues.

So what are we to devote our efforts to? You are correct if you answer the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. When we devote our efforts to please God, He will supply everything we need.

It is important that the Lord does not say He will supply our wants, but rather the things that we need. Paul repeatedly shared how he endured hardships as the Lord was always with him and allowed the trials to become opportunities.

My desire is to devote myself in the days I have left in this life to seek to please God in everything I do. I want to be a generous giver rather than a stingy taker. I want to burn out brightly for Jesus in all that I do and all that I say.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

TOUCH ME LORD! – Matthew 20:34 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

TOUCH ME LORD!

Matthew 20:34 – Devotional

Matthew 20:34

“Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. Immediately their eyes were opened and they received sight. Then they followed Him.

When I was in the US Air Force stationed in Louisiana, our family had a near tragic accident. Our daughter, Lori, was playing with neighbor kids. One of the boys shot a homemade arrow and struck Lori’s eye. A trip to the emergency room confirmed that it was an injury that could cause her to lose sight in that eye.

Following what treatment they could give her in the emergency room, she was sent home and we were told to make sure she remained quiet with a cool cloth over her eye. We were to return after a few days to determine the permanent damage.

I am not sure if it was hours or possibly a day later that Lori asked Joyce, “Mom, did you touch me?” When she told Lori that she was on the other side of the room reading, Lori said, “But mom, someone just touched my eye.” A return visit to the doctor revealed that the damaged eye was restored.

What are the hurts in your life that need the touch of the Master’s hand? It may or may not a physical thing. It may be something that you have not revealed to another person. God’s special touch may be a touch that enables you to endure the thorn in your flesh to affirm that God’s grace is sufficient. Touch me Lord!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

RESTORE US LORD! – Psalm 80:3, 7, 19 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

RESTORE US LORD!

Psalm 80:3, 7, 19 – Devotional

Psalm 80:3, 7, 19

“Restore us, O God; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved.

I recall a college professor that began each term with a word of instruction to his class. He suggested that we pay special attention to what he was about to say any time he stomped his foot because it would undoubtedly be on the test. That was good advice (except for the fact that he was prone to repeatedly stomping his foot, and many questions on his tests were not foot stompers).

In reading God’s Word, we need to pay special attention when the writer uses repetition. That is the case in Psalm 80. Here the Psalmist repeats the same psalm three times. To me, that is a foot stomper, and I need to pay special attention!

Over the years I have been involved in restoring old cars and old houses. The final result is well worth the time and toil that I invested in the project. It reminds me of the old adage; “No pain, no gain!”

If you are like me, there are many times when we come to the place where our physical energy has an effect on our spiritual well being. It is at these times we need to cry out for God to restore us. Even so come quickly Lord Jesus!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

REST IN THE LORD! – Matthew 11:25 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

REST IN THE LORD!

Matthew 11:25 – Devotional

Matthew 11:25

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Today is celebrated as Labor Day here in the U.S. and Labour Day in Canada. (They hold fast to the British spelling by adding u’s in the oddest places. I actually find the difference delightful. When I am around my Canadian friends we like to tease each other — EH?)

As we plow through this life we often become weary and worn. This is just as true in spiritual labor as it is in secular work, if not more. We often find ourselves feeling like we are carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders.

In the midst of our weariness we turn to today’s Scripture and at the outset we feel encouraged. Jesus tells us to come to Him and He will give us rest. Then we read the next verse and are told to take His yoke upon us … Wait! That sounds like more work!

The reality is that when we willingly take His yoke upon us to learn from Him, we find that He becomes our burden bearer and our constant helper. It is when we refuse His yoke that we are left to bear our burden alone. That, dear friend, is needless LABOR!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

FLASH BANG! – Matthew 24:27 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

FLASH BANG!

Matthew 24:27 – Devotional

Matthew 24:27

“For as the lighting comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

During the night we had a brief atmospheric disturbance. That is a fancy way of saying that there was a small thunder and lightning storm. Actually it is more correct to say we had a lightning and thunder storm.

During my years serving in the United States Air Force I was posted to areas of the country that were prone to severe weather. As a family we decided that rather than being afraid of the storms, we would enjoy them!

When lightning flashed and thunder rolled, the popcorn would pop and we would huddle together on the living room sofa and cheer for the spectacular fireworks that were on display.

It was during these displays that it was evident that the flash of lighting meant that the roar of thunder would follow. In our sinful world we are observing the flash of sin and depravity, and we can be sure that God will soon roar with the rumble of His wrath against the ungodly. Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
