JESUS IS HERE! – Matthew 14:25 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

JESUS IS HERE!

Matthew 14:25 – Devotional

Matthew 14:25

“Just before dawn, Jesus came to them, walking on the water.

For those of us who have worked the night shift, the night seems to be the darkest just before dawn. It is also the most boring time. Then you see the first streaks of dawn, and it becomes the most delightful. First a rim of gold appears on the eastern horizon, then a burst of light as the sun rises for the day.

The disciples of Jesus knew what a dark and stormy night on the water was like. They had perhaps even feared for their lives in previous storms. Now they experienced total shock — Jesus came walking on the water toward their boat!

Peter had no doubt been in storms like this before, but never had he experienced someone walking on the water. It was his Lord, suddenly he no longer felt afraid. In fact, he wanted to go to Jesus on the water. Peter was the only man besides Jesus who ever walked on water. But taking his eyes off the Lord and fearing the water caused him to begin to sink, but when he took the Master’s hand, he once again walked on the water to the boat.

When you are laboring in the darkest hours of your personal night, you may feel stark terror. Remember you are not alone. Jesus is there in your darkness, ready to keep you from sinking. Our critical problem is looking at the water instead of the Master who walks on the water. We need to focus our attention on Him, He will keep us from sinking!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S WONDERFUL REST! – Matthew 11:28 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S WONDERFUL REST!

Matthew 11:28 – Devotional

Matthew 11:28

“Come to Me, anyone who is tired and world-worn, and I will give you rest.

Across the years I have been blessed to counsel many people. One of the most common complaints I have heard is “I’m so tired.” In a way it has been humorous since they complain that they are so tired they need a vacation, and when they return from vacation they are exhausted from the vacation.

It rather reminds me of counseling people who are having marital problems. There will be boxes of tissues to dry the tears of those who wish they had never gotten married. Later, another person will cry their eyes out because they are not married and wish they were.

The human body is capable of performing amazing feats of stamina. The way athletes run long distances and accomplish their acts of endurance is by training. Little by little, day by day, they grow stronger and stronger until they can perform without the fatigue that once plagued them.

In today’s Scripture Jesus gives us the spiritual prescription for our weariness: Come to Him! The reward for following His direction is deep and abiding rest.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

RIGHT PRIORITIES! – Matthew 6:33 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

RIGHT PRIORITIES!

Matthew 6:33 – Devotional

Matthew 6:33

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

This passage of Scripture is part of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus has just given what we know as the Beatitudes, or what we might call the Divine blessings. Jesus teaches us about our everyday needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. He warns that we can get the wrong priorities in our life if we only focus on those issues.

So what are we to devote our efforts to? You are correct if you answer the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. When we devote our efforts to please God, He will supply everything we need.

It is important that the Lord does not say He will supply our wants, but rather the things that we need. Paul repeatedly shared how he endured hardships as the Lord was always with him and allowed the trials to become opportunities.

My desire is to devote myself in the days I have left in this life to seek to please God in everything I do. I want to be a generous giver rather than a stingy taker. I want to burn out brightly for Jesus in all that I do and all that I say.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

TOUCH ME LORD! – Matthew 20:34 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

TOUCH ME LORD!

Matthew 20:34 – Devotional

Matthew 20:34

“Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. Immediately their eyes were opened and they received sight. Then they followed Him.

When I was in the US Air Force stationed in Louisiana, our family had a near tragic accident. Our daughter, Lori, was playing with neighbor kids. One of the boys shot a homemade arrow and struck Lori’s eye. A trip to the emergency room confirmed that it was an injury that could cause her to lose sight in that eye.

Following what treatment they could give her in the emergency room, she was sent home and we were told to make sure she remained quiet with a cool cloth over her eye. We were to return after a few days to determine the permanent damage.

I am not sure if it was hours or possibly a day later that Lori asked Joyce, “Mom, did you touch me?” When she told Lori that she was on the other side of the room reading, Lori said, “But mom, someone just touched my eye.” A return visit to the doctor revealed that the damaged eye was restored.

What are the hurts in your life that need the touch of the Master’s hand? It may or may not a physical thing. It may be something that you have not revealed to another person. God’s special touch may be a touch that enables you to endure the thorn in your flesh to affirm that God’s grace is sufficient. Touch me Lord!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

RESTORE US LORD! – Psalm 80:3, 7, 19 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

RESTORE US LORD!

Psalm 80:3, 7, 19 – Devotional

Psalm 80:3, 7, 19

“Restore us, O God; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved.

I recall a college professor that began each term with a word of instruction to his class. He suggested that we pay special attention to what he was about to say any time he stomped his foot because it would undoubtedly be on the test. That was good advice (except for the fact that he was prone to repeatedly stomping his foot, and many questions on his tests were not foot stompers).

In reading God’s Word, we need to pay special attention when the writer uses repetition. That is the case in Psalm 80. Here the Psalmist repeats the same psalm three times. To me, that is a foot stomper, and I need to pay special attention!

Over the years I have been involved in restoring old cars and old houses. The final result is well worth the time and toil that I invested in the project. It reminds me of the old adage; “No pain, no gain!”

If you are like me, there are many times when we come to the place where our physical energy has an effect on our spiritual well being. It is at these times we need to cry out for God to restore us. Even so come quickly Lord Jesus!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
