BE THE SALT! – Mark 9:50b Devotional

BE THE SALT!

Mark 9:50b – Devotional

Mark 9:50b

“Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

Salt across the centuries has had many uses. It was used to preserve and season foods and for its medicinal qualities. In Roman times the soldiers were paid in salt. That is where the word salary came from. When you hear the expression “he’s not worth his salt” it refers to the payment in salt that was received.

I once heard a preacher use a wonderful illustration. He said something like this: “While it is true that you can lead a horse to water, you can’t make him drink — but you can salt his oats!” I cannot begin to tell you the number of times I have thought of that illustration since first hearing it.

Some of us in Christian ministry wear ourselves out trying to force people to drink when they show no inclination to want to drink. We may even heap on guilt or dire predictions of consequences, but there are still no slurping sounds.

What is the answer? SALT THE OATS! Right! How do we do that? We do it by creating a desire for more of the reality of God’s Word. Are we salting the oats of those we minister to? Are we creating such a desire that people thirst to drink from God’s well that never runs dry?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BE ALERT! – Mark 13:33 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

BE ALERT!

Mark 13:33 – Devotional

Mark 13:33

“Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.”

One of the major elements in defending against aggression is being on alert at all times. I can still recall the long night hours when I was on alert for any sign of threat to our nation. Thankfully we were never attacked, but there were many simulated threats to insure our readiness to react.

When you are wide awake and expectant it is much easier to react quickly and appropriately. When the night hours slip by and your eyes feel like they are filled with sand, it is necessary to react in a professional manner that comes from long hours of training.

In our spiritual walk we never know when the enemy will mount an attack. We can almost be certain that this attack will occur when we are weary and worn. If we have not spent the time in self examination, prayer, and Bible study, we will be very vulnerable to the attack.

There is one thing we can be sure about—we will meet our Lord face to face. It may be at the moment our eyes close in death or it may be when the trumpet sounds and we are called up to meet the Lord in the air. Either way, we must be on the alert with our lamps burning bright. Are you on the alert?!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

THE POWER OF WAITING! – Mark 15:3 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

THE POWER OF WAITING!

Mark 15:3 – Devotional

Mark 15:3

“The chief priests accused Him of many things: but He answered nothing.

During the height of the “Cold War,” David Benson was standing in the center of Red Square with hundreds of Russian Bibles buried in his luggage and sewn into his garments. He was to deliver the Bibles to a Russian believer, but the authorities had unexpectedly relocated that man and David had no idea where he was or how to contact him.

It was at that terrifying place in his life that David Benson took his hands off the situation and did nothing in his own strength. As he waited, totally dependent on the Lord, he was miraculously united with his contact in another part of Moscow in which he had never been. What David Benson was incapable of doing himself, God did for him. He simply experienced the power of waiting.

Throughout His ministry here on earth our Savior did much and said much, but there were times when He did nothing and said nothing. In so doing, He accomplished His purpose.

Sometimes it seems as if we are compelled to say or do something when all the Lord wants us to do is to simply do nothing more than simply wait and watch for Him to accomplish His work.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
