OUR TRUE HOME! – John 15:4 Devotional

OUR TRUE HOME!

John 15:4 – Devotional

John 15:4

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

The reality of homelessness has become a great issue in our modern world. In many cases people have been forced from the lives they once knew and been left to spend their time moving from shelter to shelter.

Because of devastating catastrophes thousands of people are now or in the future experience homelessness. It may be temporary, but it is possible that some may never be able to return to their homes.

For the true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we can visualize ourselves as being HOMELESS. That is certainly true when we pause to consider that our time in this world is temporary at best. How long we stay here is not as important as is the attitude we have toward our eternal home.

The promise that Jesus offers us here in today’s Scripture is that when we abide in Him, we are at home regardless of where that may be. I was at home when I was on a remote assignment in northern Newfoundland, Canada. I am also at home here in Tumwater, Washington. I just want to abide in Him until He calls me HOME!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S GIFT OF PEACE! – John 14:25 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S GIFT OF PEACE!

John 14:25 – Devotional

John 14:25

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.

In 1938, prior to the outbreak of WWII, Lord Sir Neville Chamberlain returned from Germany with a peace compact that was signed by Adolph Hitler. He waved the document and proclaimed, “Peace in our time!” We now know how false that peace really was.

Even today there is a peace that is anything but peaceful. I am told that in the midst of major battles a cease fire is ordered in which both sides stop hostilities for a certain period of time. It may be temporarily quiet, but it is not TRUE PEACE.

Jesus promises His followers peace that is far different from anything the world can offer. It is peace in the midst of the storms of life. It is the peace that God gave to Stephen when he was being stoned to death (Acts 7:54-60). Other martyrs died with that same peace that can only be described as REAL PEACE.

Perhaps you feel like you are being tossed to and fro in the storms of life. It is time to anchor your life to the rock of our salvation and allow the Lord to give you His TRUE PEACE that will last and satisfy your soul.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

LIVING IN CHRIST! – John 14:20 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

LIVING IN CHRIST!

John 14:20 – Devotional

John 14:20

“You will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

Are you seeking harmony in your life? Are things discordant and seemingly out of control? Do you start the day anticipating the chaos that will inevitably present itself before the day has ended?

Those of you who know me personally (my regular readers probably know me better than most people), know I try to provide hope and life in a dismal world.

In John 14:2 we find real hope for the believer: “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” Look it up and read it for a real lift for your soul.

Harmony is not the result of taking a course on organization, although that might benefit many of us. It is not in walking around with signs instructing you to “Don’t worry! Be happy!” Some grouch may lock you up for that.

Harmony is a recognition that there is an order to the universe which is not dependent upon the day-to-day circumstances. It is in being IN Christ Jesus. He confirms that He is in His Father. As we are in Him, He promises to be in us! That is the true essence of LIVING IN CHRIST!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OUR FOREVER HOME! – John 14:2 Devotional

OUR FOREVER HOME!

John 14:2 – Devotional

John 14:2

“In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Our forever home is being prepared for us right now! In Revelation 21 we are given a glimpse into that wonderful place called Heaven and the New Jerusalem. It is so magnificent that words cannot adequately describe it.

From time to time we find ourselves in unknown territory and have that terrible feeling that we are lost and do not know how to discover our way back to known territory. If you have ever been in that situation you will know the feeling of fear that being lost induces. Relax, God is preparing a place for us that will be HOME!

I have read reports where biblical scholars have calculated the size of our heavenly homes. Instead of square feet, the size is measured in square miles. Our family once toured the Hurst Castle in California, but in spite of its opulence it would be considered squalid when compared with the mansion Jesus is preparing for us.

There will come a day when we will be escorted to our new home. We will meet all of our dear ones who have died in the Lord. It will be wonderful, but the greatest glory of all will be to see Jesus and know that we will be with Him for all eternity. What a wonderful mansion is waiting for us. Our forever home!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

HIDDEN PEACE! – John 14:27 Devotional

HIDDEN PEACE!

John 14:27 – Devotional

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

True inner peace is not achieved by our best intentions or some so-called higher level of thinking. It comes from a relationship which is established when we have been born again and receive the assurance of eternal life. The world cannot understand it, but like some “wise” person once observed; “It is better felt than telt!”

Our hymn this week is attributed to John H. Brown. There is very little information known about him, but the important legacy he leaves for us is the truth of his precious hymn.

. . . . . . . .

HIDDEN PEACE!

I cannot tell thee whence it came,
This peace within my breast;
But this I know, there fills my soul
A strange and tranquil rest.

Refrain
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
Tho’ the billows of sin near me roll,
He abides, Christ abides.

Beneath the toil and care of life,
This hidden stream flows on;
My weary soul no longer thirsts,
Nor am I sad and lone.

Refrain
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
Tho’ the billows of sin near me roll,
He abides, Christ abides.

I cannot tell the half of love,
Unfeigned, supreme, divine,
That caused my darkest inmost self
With beams of hope to shine.

Refrain
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
Tho’ the billows of sin near me roll,
He abides, Christ abides.

I cannot tell thee why He chose
To suffer and to die,
But if I suffer here with Him
I’ll reign with Him on high.

Refrain
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
Tho’ the billows of sin near me roll,
He abides, Christ abides.

. . . . . . . .

SAVED! – John 3:17 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

SAVED!

John 3:17 – Devotional

John 3:17

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

I have enjoyed the rare privilege of working in a wide range of positions in the criminal justice field. I have walked the streets as a “street cop,” and I have driven a patrol car. I served as a County Juvenile Probation Officer and was a Probation and Parole Specialist with the Idaho State Law Enforcement Planning Commission.

As you can see, my life experience goes beyond the pulpit. In contemplating John 3:17, we see that Satan delights in clouding our minds to think of God as an evil Master who delights in making people miserable. God does not condemn the world instead it was a free choice that Satan enticed Adam and Eve to make.

I like to think of God as the Supreme Divine Parole Officer. He freely offers guilty men and women freedom from the penalty of sin. The choice to accept His gift is left up to each of us who are the condemned offenders.

The arms of the Lord are open wide to receive any and all who come to Him by grace through faith. There is nothing we can ever do to earn or deserve His gift of eternal life. We either accept or decline. Oh, I hope each of you will accept!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
