ALWAYS FAITHFUL! – Hebrews 13:8 Devotional

ALWAYS FAITHFUL!

Hebrews 13:8 – Devotional

Hebrews 13:8

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”

I hate to say it, but the promises of some people are like a hot air balloon. When the flame dies down the balloon loses lift and sinks to the ground. If this is intentional on the part of the balloonist it is good. If it is not intentional and very unexpected it can be catastrophic!

We live in a world of uncertainty! The promises that some people make are very much like a hot air balloon – – filled with nothing but hot air! That may sound harsh and judgmental, but when we live our life committed to Christ we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit and not just a lot of hot air!

The words of our mouth and the actions of our life must match in order for us to be counted upon by the Lord. Any time we say one thing and do another we prove that there is a hole in our balloon.

As we make an examination of our life I pray that we will increasingly allow the Lord to fill us and allow us to rise nearer and nearer to Him each passing day! We may not have all of the answers, and in fact have more questions than answers, but in these last days we need to be always faithful!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS! – Hebrews 12:2 Devotional

TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS!

Hebrews 12:2 – Devotional

Hebrews 12:2

“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus | Helen H. Lemmel (1922)

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

THERE IS A BALM IN GILEAD! – Hebrews 13:11-16 Devotional

THERE IS A BALM IN GILEAD!

Hebrews 13:11-16 – Devotional

Hebrews 13:11-16

Under the old system, the high priest brought the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, and the bodies of the animals were burned outside the camp. So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood. So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore. For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.

Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.

In the Old Testament, Gilead was the name of the mountainous region east of the Jordan River. This region was known for having skillful physicians and an ointment made from the gum of a tree particular to that area. Many believed that this balm had miraculous powers to heal the body.

In the book of Jeremiah, God tells the people of Israel that though many believe in the mysterious healing power of this balm, they can’t trust in those powers for spiritual healing or as a relief of their oppression. He reminds them that He is ultimately in control, and only He can relieve their suffering.

In the New Testament, God answers the suffering of His people by sending His own son to take our place. Jesus becomes our “Balm in Gilead.” It is Him we are called to turn to in our times of trial for healing and comfort.

We sing this song with that assurance: no matter our hardships or supposed shortcomings, Jesus loves us enough to take our suffering upon Himself.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

THERE IS A BALM IN GILEAD

There is a balm in Gilead
to make the wounded whole,
there is a balm in Gilead
to heal the sin-sick soul.

Sometimes I feel discouraged
and think my work’s in vain,
but then the Holy Spirit
revives my soul again.

There is a balm in Gilead
to make the wounded whole,
there is a balm in Gilead
to heal the sin-sick soul.

If you cannot preach like Peter,
if you cannot pray like Paul,
you can tell the love of Jesus
and say, “He died for all.”

There is a balm in Gilead
to make the wounded whole,
there is a balm in Gilead
to heal the sin-sick soul.

FAITH’S GATE!

Hebrews 11:1-3 – Devotional

Hebrews 11:1-3

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”

PRICE OF SIN! – Hebrews 11:24-25 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PRICE OF SIN!

Hebrews 11:24-25 – Devotional

Hebrews 11:24-25

“By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin.”

The pleasures of sin come with a huge price tag. Over the years I have counseled many people who yielded to the siren call of temptation and paid a price that was far more than they expected.

Satan has a deceitful way of making things seem so enticing and appealing that it leads the unwise to indulge. It started in the Garden of Eden when he tempted Adam and Eve to violate the command of God to not eat of the forbidden fruit.

We have no idea what kind of fruit it was, and that really makes no difference. The issue was not the type of fruit, but that God had said that they were not to taste of the fruit. In like manner, the Holy Spirit gives conviction about yielding to certain temptations. When we hear His voice and know it is wrong, we need to run (not walk) away from tempting fruit.

What is the temptation you are encountering? Get away from it as fast as your feet can carry you. If you have already yielded to the temptation, go to the Lord and confess your sin. Turn away from the thing that consumes you and start filling your heart and mind with the living Word of God. God does not want to punish; He wants to forgive the sincere repentant.
