UNLIMITED BALANCE! – Hebrews 4:16 Devotional

UNLIMITED BALANCE!

Hebrews 4:16 – Devotional

Hebrews 4:16

“Let us come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in the hour of our need.

We live in a world where many have been lured into the pit of credit card debt. As a result it is hard to get a good grasp on saving. At the same time there are some people who become obsessed with saving for a future they may never live to see.

Jesus once told the parable of the rich fool. This rich man had such bountiful crops that he decided to build new barns to store all of the abundance of his fields. God thundered out that that very night the man would die and all of his planning would be for nothing.

Jesus was not advocating that we are not to make provision for the future, but that we must be careful to make the things of God our primary aim. “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

God’s grace is always available for anyone who will draw from His storehouse of grace. We can never stockpile God’s grace, but His abundant supply is always waiting for us at the time we need it. If you are facing an obstacle that seems to be more than you can bear, call out to God — He will supply His unlimited balance!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

NEARER, STILL NEARER! – Hebrews 10:22 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

NEARER, STILL NEARER!

Hebrews 10:22 – Devotional

Hebrews 10:22

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”

Both the text and tune of Nearer, Still Nearer were written and composed by Lelia Naylor Morris (1862-1929).

Nearer, Still Nearer has a biblical progression to it. It begins with a prayer for God to bring us closer and closer to Him.

The second verse addresses the fact that there is no way we can be near the Lord unless the blood of Jesus cleanses us.

The third stanza moves us toward craving Jesus more than sin – whatever barrier we need to remove so we can be near Jesus we will remove.

Finally in the last paragraph of lyrics, the ultimate goal has been reached and we are finally in eternal glory in unbroken and unbreakable fellowship with our God and Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Here are the lyrics:

NEARER, STILL NEARER!

Nearer, still nearer, close to Thy heart,
Draw me, my Savior, so precious Thou art;
Fold me, O fold me close to Thy breast,
Shelter me safe in that haven of rest,
Shelter me safe in that haven of rest.

Nearer, still nearer, nothing I bring,
Nought as an offering to Jesus my King-
Only my sinful now contrite heart,
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart,
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart.

Nearer, still nearer, Lord, to be Thine;
Sin, with its follies, I gladly resign,
All of its pleasures, pomp and its pride;
Give me but Jesus, my Lord crucified,
Give me but Jesus, my Lord crucified.

Nearer, still nearer, while life shall last;
Till safe in glory my anchor is cast;
Through endless ages, ever to be,
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee,
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee.

NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD! – Hebrews 4:12 Devotional

NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD!

Hebrews 4:12 – Devotional

Hebrews 4:12

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

If you were to look through some of my photograph albums, many of them show me with one of our children or grandchildren lying on my chest sound asleep. In fact many times both the child and I are sound asleep. Perhaps I have the type of chest that is just made for cuddling. I would much rather have the reputation of being a cuddler than a curmudgeon. (That’s a fancy word for an old cantankerous person). I think the warmth of my chest and the steady beat of my heart is comforting to babies.

In the early years of the 20th Century there was a pandemic of diphtheria in the US that claimed many lives. In 1903 Cleland McAfee was chaplain and choir director at Park College in Parkville, Missouri. As the pandemic swept the area, two of his nieces died from the dread disease and the others in the house were quarantined. In his hour of grief he wrote the hymn NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD and had the college choir sing outside the house.

When you pass through the valley of the shadow of death let these words bring the quiet assurance we need.

. . . . . . . .

NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD

There is a place of quiet rest, Near to the heart of God.
A place where sin cannot molest, Near to the heart of God.

Refrain: O Jesus, blest redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of comfort sweet, Near to the heart of God.
A place where we our Savior meet, Near to the heart of God.

Refrain: O Jesus, blest redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of full release, Near to the heart of God.
A place where all is joy and peace, Near to the heart of God.

Refrain: O Jesus, blest redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

I AM THINE, O LORD! – Hebrews 10:22 Devotional

I AM THINE, O LORD!

Hebrews 10:22 – Devotional

Hebrews 10:22

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”

“I am Thine, O Lord” is one of many hymns written by Fanny Crosby, a prolific American hymn writer. The melody was composed by William Howard Doane.

The former was talking with the latter one night about the proximity of God and penned the words before retiring for the night. Hebrews 10:22 is also reported as being a source of inspiration for the hymn: “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”

. . . . . . . .

I am Thine, O Lord

I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the power of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

O the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

REMEMBER TO ENCOURAGE! – Hebrews 3:13 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

REMEMBER TO ENCOURAGE!

Hebrews 3:13 – Devotional

Hebrews 3:13

“Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

I recall Professor Howard Hendricks commenting about how easy it is to dampen the fervor of a new Christian. All too often a more mature believer may react to their joy as they share a spiritual truth he or she has just discovered and blow it off as if a three year old could find such a thing.

Professor Hendricks always made a point of being so thrilled over the new believer’s discovery that he would overflow with excitement and encouragement. This sort of encouragement causes the new believer to want to spend even more time searching the Word.

Each of us has the choice to either encourage or discourage people. Sadly there is a third option. It is to simply ignore people. I have heard it said that being ignored is almost worse than being demeaned. It is like that person does not exist.

How do you rate in the encouragement department? Do others feel motivated to draw closer to the Lord after they have spent time with you? Do not let Satan have the victory because of your indifference. Be an encourager!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
