DIRECTIONS!

Genesis 24:48-49 – Devotional

Genesis 24:48-49

“And I bowed my head and worshiped the Lord, and blessed the Lord God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the way of truth to take the daughter of my master’s brother for his son. Now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. And if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.

I once was asked to officiate at a wedding in a large city. The venue where the wedding was to take place had been in use earlier that day, so we could not have a rehearsal. I had left in plenty of time (or so I th ought) to locate the building. Unfortunately, the directions just happened to have omitted one left turn, which made them useless.

If you have ever been in a strange city trying to find your way to an unknown destination, you need help. Time after time I would stop and ask for directions only to be told that they had never heard of the place. I finally located the building and found that we were going to be starting late because others coul dnot find their way either.

In today’s Scripture, Abraham’s servant had been sent on a special mission ot go to the land of his master’s family to select a bride for Isaac, Abraham’s son. He had no idea how to find the right one, so he prayed for God’s direction. It would be the young woman who would offer him a drink and also to water his camels.

The test did not seem like very much, but it demonstrated a complete trust in God to lead him to the correct maiden. Rebecca was God’s choice and He led the servant to complete his mission. When we have decisions to make, it is always wise to pray for the Lord to guide us. He will never fail if we keep our eyes on Him.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

THE UNCLOUDED DAY! – Genesis 9:16 Devotional

THE UNCLOUDED DAY!

Genesis 9:16 – Devotional

Genesis 9:16

“Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

Years ago my wife Joyce and I were driving along the beautiful Columbia River gorge in Oregon. A rain shower had recently swept across the region, and now bright sunlight flooded the area. As we drove, a rainbow kept pace beside the car. I know it was just a refraction of the sunlight, but what an awe inspiring sight.

There are two requirements to produce a rainbow, rain and sun. Without rain there could be no rainbow. Without sun there would be no rainbow. In the rainy times of our life, God’s tender care for us brings His rainbow of blessing. God’s covenant of love did not say that we would be free of rain, but He is always with us in the storms of life.

Back in 1879 Rev. J. K. Alwood was equally moved as he observed a rainbow in the western sky late one evening as he was traveling home. When he arrived at his home, he immediately composed the hymn for this week; The Unclouded Day.

. . . . . . . .

The Unclouded Day

O they tell me of a home far beyond the skies, O they tell me of a home far away; O they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise, O they tell me of an unclouded day.

Chorus: O the land of cloudless day, O the land of an unclouded sky; O they tell me of a home, where no storm clouds rise, O they tell me of an unclouded day.

O they tell me of a home where my friends have gone, O they tell me of that land far away; where the tree of life in eternal bloom sheds its fragrance thru the unclouded day.

Chorus: O the land of cloudless day, O the land of an unclouded sky; O they tell me of a home, where no storm clouds rise, O they tell me of an unclouded day.

O they tell me of the King in His beauty there, And they tell me that mine eyes shall behold, where He sits on the throne that is whiter than snow, In the city that is made of gold.

Chorus: O the land of cloudless day, O the land of an unclouded sky;O they tell me of a home, where no storm clouds rise, O they tell me of an unclouded day.

O they tell me that he smiles on His children there, and his smile drives their sorrows all away; And they tell me that no tears ever come again, In that lovely land of unclouded day.

Chorus: O the land of cloudless day, O the land of an unclouded sky; O they tell me of a home, where no storm clouds rise, O they tell me of an unclouded day.

BELIEVING AND DOING! – Genesis 15:6 Devotional

BELIEVING AND DOING!

Genesis 15:6 – Devotional

Genesis 15:6

“Abraham believed in the LORD and the LORD credited it to Abraham as righteousness.”

I have been spending some of my Bible reading time in the Book of James. It is a “rubber meets the road” book that challenges the reader to act on faith, not just give lip service.

It reminds me of the adage that we used to hear; “Your actions speak so loud I can’t hear a word you are saying.” Wow! That is still just as powerful as I read it once again as it was the first time I heard it!

It reminds me that our actions are continually under scrutiny. The closer we walk with the Lord the closer people will watch to see if our walk matches our talk. It is sad to say that even in some believer’s lives there is a huge gap between what they preach and what they practice!

I do not want today’s Daily-E-Votional to be a bashing of believers session. I want to remind us that at all times and in all ways we are reflecting the image of what a Christian should be. Believing and doing should mesh together as one!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

HUSBANDS LOVE! – Genesis 2:24 Devotional

Genesis 2:24

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

I recently heard Pastor Ed Young suggest that a large percentage of the conflict within marriages is the fault of the husband. At first, I was stunned by his comment, but as I reflected back on my long career as a Christian Counselor, I’m afraid I must agree.

Far too many husbands have the attitude that they are the big cheese in the family and everyone should devote themselves to making him content. That includes his wife. How far from the Scripture that concept really is.

In Ephesians 5:25 we read the God-given instructions for husbands: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.” So, husband, how are you doing in obeying this command? More enlightening, how would your wife say you are doing?

In a day and age when husbands disappear into their “man-caves” (I despise that concept), it is time for Godly husbands to show their wives that they are cherished. Say the words and demonstrate the sacrificial actions — die to your own selfish demands and bring new life into your marriage!

Blessings dear hearts.  May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
