COUNTING THE COST!

Acts 9:16 – Devotional

Acts 9:16

“I will show him how great things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”

Those who were the persecutors of Christians gave them opportunity to change their minds and recant their belief in Jesus Christ as their Savior. Their challenge was something like this: “Recant or you will die!” Some responded to their persecutors: “Repent or you will die!”

One thing that such persecution did was to weed out the namby-pamby, half-hearted followers of the Lord. When your life was on the line, you made sure that you were really ready to repent.

My great fear is that we have churches full of people who believe about Christ, who believe that He is the Son of God who came to die for our sins. They even go so far as to make a public profession of that statement. The problem is that this is not enough—There must be repentance!

Repentance is turning around and going the other way. In the verses before today’s Scripture, Saul (Paul) had been going to Damascus in order to persecute believers. On the road he was blinded by the presence of the Lord and his life suddenly turned around. Paul knew what was in store for him. He faced suffering and death, but there was a crown of righteousness waiting for him in glory!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PREACH JESUS! – Acts 8:35 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PREACH JESUS!

Acts 8:35 – Devotional

Acts 8:35

Philip opened his mouth and began at the passage the eunuch was reading and preached Jesus to him.

I seem to recall a definition of effective Christian witnessing as one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread. It would be an act of selfishness for a beggar to horde a supply of food and allow another beggar to go hungry!

As born-again believers we are assigned the responsibility of sharing wonderful news of salvation with a lost and spiritually starving world. We do that by being serious about reading the Bible and speaking to the Lord in prayer.

In Acts chapter 8, without explanation, Philip was called by an angel to go south and preach Jesus. Think about it! When Philip was sent he had no idea how far he was going and what he would find. That was not his concern. He was just called to trust and obey!

When we obey the leading of the Holy Spirit we simply need to be sensitive to the voice of the Lord and be prepared to preach Jesus at a moment’s notice to the one or ones who are near us. Just preach Jesus!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GLEANING GOD’S WORD! – Acts 17:11 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GLEANING GOD’S WORD!

Acts 17:11 – Devotional

Acts 17:11

“They received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

As I watch the wild birds outside my window, they eagerly fight over seeds I have placed in their feed cups. It seems that they want to make sure that they get every morsel of food that is available.

In today’s Scripture, Paul introduces us to the people of Berea. He commends them for three reasons: 1) they were fair-minded; 2) they received the word with all readiness; 3) they searched the Scriptures daily. Wow!

There is no specific letter that Paul penned to the people of Berea, but he commends them highly. It was because they were faithful to the WORD! We are not told how large the Berean church was, but they were a blessing to Paul.

Like my birds scratching away to glean every last bit of seed, it is my sincere desire to scratch away at the life-giving Word of God and apply it to my life. I ask you to make a new commitment to join with me in discovering the truth that the Lord has for us.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
