WE HAVE GOOD NEWS! – Acts 8:35 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

WE HAVE GOOD NEWS!

Acts 8:35 – Devotional

Acts 8:35

“Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.”

During the dark days of WWII, we lived near the Pacific Coast and were always on alert for a possible invasion. There were blackouts, rationing and stars in windows to signify that a son or daughter was in the service or had died in the war.

The world had just passed through the great depression and many families were still experiencing hard times. It was a time when we needed to hear words of hope and encouragement. Radio broadcaster Gabriel Heater brought hope as he started each broadcast by saying; “There’s good news tonight!” In the time of darkness and doubt good news was desperately needed.

In today’s Scripture a eunuch from Ethiopia was discouraged by his inability to understand a passage of Scripture from Isaiah 53. It was into this scene that Philip arrived and brought him the good news about Jesus.

With every dismal and depressing circumstance in our life we need to hear the good news of hope from God’s Word. That is the best news to a sin-sick world!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PREACH JESUS! – Acts 8:35 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PREACH JESUS!

Acts 8:35 – Devotional

Acts 8:35

“Philip opened his mouth and began at the passage the eunuch was reading and preached Jesus to him.”

I seem to recall a definition of effective Christian witnessing as one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread. It would be an act of selfishness for a beggar to horde a supply of food and allow another beggar to go hungry!

As born-again believers we are assigned the responsibility of sharing wonderful news of salvation with a lost and spiritually starving world. We do that by being serious about reading the Bible and speaking to the Lord in prayer.

In Acts chapter 8, without explanation, Philip was called by an angel to go south and preach Jesus. Think about it! When Philip was sent he had no idea how far he was going and what he would find. That was not his concern. He was just called to trust and obey!

When we obey the leading of the Holy Spirit we simply need to be sensitive to the voice of the Lord and be prepared to preach Jesus at a moment’s notice to the one or ones who are near us. Just preach Jesus!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN! – Acts 4:12 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN!

Acts 4:12 – Devotional

Acts 4:12

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

It makes me cringe when I hear someone state that they have always been a Christian. Beeep!! That is so far from scripturally sound that it makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

The sad thing is that many people fail to truly become believers because they have been taught that they have always believed in God. If someone has “always been a Christian,” then the Bible is false. God’s Word repeatedly tells us that we must experience a new birth in order to obtain salvation.

Nicodemus was a devout and knowledgeable teacher of the Jews. He knew all of the man-made requirements that seemingly would make a person right with God. Jesus shook his thinking when He told Nicodemus he had to be born again (John 3).

The question you need to pose for yourself is this: “Have I experienced the new birth?” If not, you need to open your heart, confess that you are a sinner, and ask Jesus to come in and make you His child. Have you done that?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
