HE DID WHAT WE COULD NOT!

1 Peter 3:18 – Devotional

1 Peter 3:18

“Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.”

We typically like to think more highly of ourselves than we ought. We may not say we deserve to be forgiven of our sins and transgressions, but we frequently act as if that were the case. “If we are good enough, God will look with favor on us.” Beep!

That thought process is categorically contrary to God’s Word. It is always by grace through faith as we read in Ephesians 2:8: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” If we are saved by grace through faith, how are we kept? The same way! We no more deserve to remain saved by our works than we are saved by our good works. It is always by God’s grace.

Does that mean we are free to live as we please? God forbid! We are now free to serve as the redeemed of the Lord. That means we have been set free from the power of sin and death to serve the Lord in the power of His redeeming grace.

Lift up your head, dear believer! We do not deserve the powerful and amazing grace of our Lord, but He showers it freely on us. Serve Him with joy and gladness as the unjust who have been blessed with freedom and everlasting life!

Blessings dear hearts! May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BOLD YET MEEK! – 1 Peter 3:15 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

BOLD YET MEEK!

1 Peter 3:15 – Devotional

1 Peter 3:15

“Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and always be ready to answer anyone who asks for a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”

Everyone encounters unexpected emergencies in their daily life. As believers we are expected to react in a more positive way than unbelievers. The reason for our positive outlook is that we that our future in eternity with the Lord is assured. Without a firm spiritual foundation that is based on the truth of God’s Word, we will find ourselves adrift in the sea of confusion.

There is another aspect of preparedness that I want to briefly touch upon today. “BE PREPARED TO BE MEEK!” We prepare to be meek by yielding to the work of the Holy Spirit in our life. Not our will; but the Lord’s will that is all important!

God has called us to be His witnesses and spread the gospel around the world, but we are told to be wise in the manner in which we share the message. Notice that this passage mentions that sharing must be done with “…meekness and fear.”

To me, this meekness and fear implies that we be sensitive to those open hearts which are around us. We must also witness to the lost by the life we live as much, or even more than the words we speak. As the old railroad crossing signs said: STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN, then proceed with caution as we share.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

DOES JESUS CARE? – 1 Peter 5:6-7 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

DOES JESUS CARE?

1 Peter 5:6-7 – Devotional

1 Peter 5:6-7

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

There have been times in my life when I felt isolated and alone. When I experienced these times of spiritual drought I was prone to wonder if Jesus really cared. Even though I am usually happy and optimistic, I have felt the enemy of my soul attack. It is during these times that I rush to God’s Word for comfort.

Frank E. Graeff was known as the “sunshine minister.” He had a cheery disposition, a winsome personality, spiritual optimist, and was a great friend of children. He was known to have a child-like faith. That being said, he did pass through times of deep trials. It was then that he turned to the Scriptures as his guide in the darkness.

As I read the words of this hymn that he wrote, I can see the change from gloom and despair to hope and victory. That is what I want in my life.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

DOES JESUS CARE?

Does Jesus care when my heart is pained; Too deeply for mirth or song,
As the burdens press, and the cares distress, And the way grows weary and long?

Refrain: Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.

Does Jesus care when my way is dark; with a nameless dread and fear?
As the daylight fades into deep night shades, does He care enough to be near?

Refrain: Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.

Does Jesus care when I’ve tried and failed, to resist some temptation strong;
When for my deep grief there is no relief, though my tears flow all the night long?

Refrain: Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.

Does Jesus care when I’ve said “goodbye” to the dearest on earth to me,
And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks—is it aught to Him? Does He see?

Refrain: Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.

HONOR AND LOVE! – 1 Peter 2:17 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

HONOR AND LOVE!

1 Peter 2:17 – Devotional

1 Peter 2:17

Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

When I was a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force, it was common to give and receive hand salutes. The lower ranking individual always saluted first, and his salute was always returned by the officer of higher rank.

When you arrived at a new duty station, one of the first things that was required was to register your automobile. This gave you access to go in and out of the base without stopping to register. A decal was placed on the windshield on the driver’s side; officers had different colored decals from enlisted personnel. When you approached the gate the guard would stand at attention and salute, and you would then return the salute as you passed through.

On one occasion my dad was visiting us from out of state and, for some reason, had used my car to go into town. He was delighted when he returned and the guard saluted him when he passed through the gate back onto the base. The guard had simply saluted the decal identifying a commissioned officer. When I asked him what he did, Dad said he returned the salute.

Military protocol requires giving honor. It is tragic that we fail to honor the God of the universe who has created all things and for whom all things were created. I personally want to give more honor to the Lord than ever before in 2025!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
