HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION! – 1 Corinthians 3:10-11 Devotional

HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION!

1 Corinthians 3:10-11 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 3:10-11

“According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

During my high school days, I worked weekends and summers for a concrete contractor. Believe me when I tell you that things were different and difficult back then. There was very little pre-mixed concrete that was delivered by large rotating carriers. We were the mixers! We had a pile of sand, another of gravel and sacks of concrete that we had to combine shovel by shovel and bag by bag, water was then added.

In order to get the sloppy concrete into the foundation, we had to deliver it by manual labor. We had large wheelbarrows that we filled then pushed to the point of delivery. In the building process a solid foundation was essential. A weakened foundation could lead to the building falling.

As we travel through this life we often see people that have not laid a foundation that will withstand the storms of life. Sadly when storms strike, their foundations fail. It is during the storms that we need the solid foundation of the Lord Jesus Christ to keep us safe. John Rippon published this hymn in 1787.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION

1. How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

2. Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, I will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand.

3. When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace all-sufficient shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

4. The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!

THE WAY OF ESCAPE! – 1 Corinthians 10:13 Devotional

THE WAY OF ESCAPE!

1 Corinthians 10:13 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 10:13

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

The images of frantic people chasing after a huge Air Force cargo plane were heart rendering. These frantic people knew they were being left behind and the fate that awaited them was almost more than they could bear.

Some people have tried to describe the scene that occurred during the flood in Noah’s day. There is no vivid description about people crying out for deliverance as the flood waters rose. This may or may not have been the case.

It is just as likely that they dismissed the torrent of rain as just a passing thing and the sun would soon be shining again and they could return to their sin and revelry. It is so sad that people who are perishing frequently do not realize their danger until it is too late.

If ever there were a time to share the good news of hope and deliverance from the storm that lies ahead, it is now! Now is the day of salvation and even if we only rescue one person before it is too late, it is worth it. Offer the way of escape!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

WE’LL UNDERSTAND IT BETTER BY AND BY! – 1 Corinthians 13:12 Devotional

WE’LL UNDERSTAND IT BETTER BY AND BY!

1 Corinthians 13:12 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 13:12

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Take a moment today to meditate on the lyrics to We’ll Understand It Better By and By (lyrics by Charles Albert Tindley):

We are often tossed and driv’n
on the restless sea of time,
somber skies and howling tempest
oft succeed a bright sunshine;
in that land of perfect day,
when the mists have rolled away,
we will understand it better by and by.

Refrain:
By and by, when the morning comes,
when the saints of God are gathered home,
we’ll tell the story,
how we’ve overcome,
for we’ll understand it better by and by.

We are often destitute
of the things that life demands,
want of food and want of shelter,
thirsty hills and barren lands;
we are trusting in the Lord,
and according to the Word,
we will understand it better by and by.

Refrain:
By and by, when the morning comes,
when the saints of God are gathered home,
we’ll tell the story,
how we’ve overcome,
for we’ll understand it better by and by.

Temptations, hidden snares,
often take us unawares,
and our hearts are made to bleed for
any thoughtless word or deed;
and we wonder why the test
when we try to do our best,
but we’ll understand it better by and by.

Refrain:
By and by, when the morning comes,
when the saints of God are gathered home,
we’ll tell the story,
how we’ve overcome,
for we’ll understand it better by and by.

WHAT GOD BLESSES! – 1 Corinthians 1:27 Devotional

WHAT GOD BLESSES!

1 Corinthians 1:27 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 1:27

“God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and He has chosen the weak things of the world to shame things which are mighty.

If you ever feel that you are not smart enough, or popular enough, or from the right kind of family to do God’s work in an effective manner, read today’s Scripture passage once again. Who does God choose? The foolish and the weak — that describes me!

Jesus did not teach on a theological level, yet His clear and simple teaching has confounded doctors of theology across the centuries. He was the creator of the world, yet His ministry was extremely simple.

He did not intend for people to be mentally brilliant in order to know Him personally. It was and always has been this simple: Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.

We should never demean one another with words that insult. Rather, we should always encourage each other with words that convey love and respect! Look for the good in others and always encourage others by telling them you notice what they are doing.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

RUN TO WIN! – 1 Corinthians 9:24 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

RUN TO WIN!

1 Corinthians 9:24 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 9:24

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

There are many types of races: Car races, horse races, foot races, just to name a few. It is interesting that in many races one competitor may lead throughout the race and victory is almost assured … but then comes the finish line!

It is not uncommon for one driver to lead almost all the way only to experience the heartbreak of an accident near the end lap and lose the race. The one who leads for most of the race is not declared the winner, but the one who crosses the finish line first.

I have watched foot races where the competitors have Down syndrome. These precious jewels run with such joy and excitement. Many times they are just as excited about someone else winning as themselves.

When they cross the finish line each one is awarded a prize. I somehow think that is what Paul wants us to understand. Every person in the world is entered in the race, but only those who have Christ in their heart will receive the prize. At the end of our race, the Lord will meet us and reward us for running for Him.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
