O SACRED HEAD, NOW WOUNDED!

Matthew 27:42 – Devotional

Matthew 27:42

“He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Let’s contemplate the words of Scripture found in Psalm 22 that foretell with amazing detail the agony Jesus suffered on the cross for us.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

PSALM 22

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?

My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
by night, but I find no rest.

Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;
you are the one Israel praises.
In you our ancestors put their trust;
they trusted and you delivered them.
To you they cried out and were saved;
in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
All who see me mock me;
they hurl insults, shaking their heads.

“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
“let the Lord rescue him.
Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”

Yet you brought me out of the womb;
you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast.
From birth I was cast on you;
from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

Do not be far from me, for trouble is near
and there is no one to help.

Many bulls surround me;
strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
Roaring lions that tear their prey
open their mouths wide against me.

I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax;
it has melted within me.

My mouth is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;
you lay me in the dust of death.

Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me;
they pierce my hands and my feet.
All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me.

They divide my clothes among them
and cast lots for my garment.

But you, Lord, do not be far from me.
You are my strength; come quickly to help me.
Deliver me from the sword,
my precious life from the power of the dogs.

Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;
save me from the horns of the wild oxen.

I will declare your name to my people;
in the assembly I will praise you.

You who fear the Lord, praise him!
All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
For he has not despised or scorned
the suffering of the afflicted one;
he has not hidden his face from him
but has listened to his cry for help.

From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;
before those who fear you I will fulfill my vows.

The poor will eat and be satisfied;
those who seek the Lord will praise him—
may your hearts live forever!

All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations.

All the rich of the earth will feast and worship;
all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—
those who cannot keep themselves alive.

Posterity will serve him; future generations
will be told about the Lord.

They will proclaim his righteousness,
declaring to a people yet unborn:
He has done it!

BE STANDOUT DOERS! – Luke 6:28 Devotional

BE STANDOUT DOERS!

Luke 6:28 – Devotional

Luke 6:28

“Bless the ones who curse you and pray for the ones who hurt you.”

It is honorable to do good to those around us. We can probably recall times when we exchanged gifts and pleasantries with friends and co-workers. The sun shone and the birds sang. What a wonderful world!

Back to reality! Life is not usually lived in such glorious conditions. More often we find ourselves in disputes and conflicts that seem to arise from nowhere. Actually we know where their source comes from. The enemy of our souls has determined to make God’s children miserable. He uses his weapons of hate and deceit to cause strife and division.

As born-again believers of Christ, we have been delivered from the curse of eternal punishment, but that does not mean we will not be subject to the attacks of the enemy of our souls. Satan wants us to believe that he is in control, but Christ won the battle on the cross and we can live in victory!

The Lord wants us to be more than survivors. He wants us to cross life’s finish line with our hands raised in victory. The Lord wants us to be standout doers that have the grace to love those who hurt us by their words and actions. The Lord wants us to be standout doers of His will and of His way!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

LET THERE BE PEACE! – John 14:27 Devotional

LET THERE BE PEACE!

John 14:27 – Devotional

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Have you ever had people return from a trip and comment that God was with them and they had no trouble coming or going? Does that imply that if something had gone wrong that God was not with them? That’s something to think about, isn’t it?

I have had trips where I encountered unexpected difficulties. I didn’t relish those difficult times, but I could see the hand of God working. Pain and turmoil does not necessarily mean that God is not using us.

Job went through tremendous suffering and pain. The loss of all of his children, his wealth, and his health did not mean that God was not using him. Job has become the example for all of us that in the midst of the pain God is at work.

Joseph was another shining example of enduring pain for the sake of the Lord. Cast into a pit, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison was God’s way of placing him where he needed to be. When things go rough in our life we need not fear that God has forgotten us. Find His peace and live!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PRICE OF SIN! – Hebrews 11:24-25 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PRICE OF SIN!

Hebrews 11:24-25 – Devotional

Hebrews 11:24-25

“By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin.”

The pleasures of sin come with a huge price tag. Over the years I have counseled many people who yielded to the siren call of temptation and paid a price that was far more than they expected.

Satan has a deceitful way of making things seem so enticing and appealing that it leads the unwise to indulge. It started in the Garden of Eden when he tempted Adam and Eve to violate the command of God to not eat of the forbidden fruit.

We have no idea what kind of fruit it was, and that really makes no difference. The issue was not the type of fruit, but that God had said that they were not to taste of the fruit. In like manner, the Holy Spirit gives conviction about yielding to certain temptations. When we hear His voice and know it is wrong, we need to run (not walk) away from tempting fruit.

What is the temptation you are encountering? Get away from it as fast as your feet can carry you. If you have already yielded to the temptation, go to the Lord and confess your sin. Turn away from the thing that consumes you and start filling your heart and mind with the living Word of God. God does not want to punish; He wants to forgive the sincere repentant.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

ALWAYS DO HIS WILL! – Matthew 12:50 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

ALWAYS DO HIS WILL!

Matthew 12:50 – Devotional

Matthew 12:50

“For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”

I once observed a battle being waged between a mother and her daughter who was about two years old. We used to call them the terrible twos! The little girl stubbornly sat down and refused to walk. The stand-off occurred in a public place which made it embarrassing for her mother.

The frustrated mother walked about fifteen feet away from her daughter and waited for her to come. The girl threw a fit, but she would only walk one or two steps before sitting down once more.

It was more than five or ten minutes before the little one finally gave in and came to her mother. By that time she was bawling her eyes out and both she and her mother were miserable.

As I have relived that scene, I could see the face of God watching us as we fought for our own will instead of yielding to His will. Just as that little girl could not care for herself, so we are not able to adequately know what lies ahead for us. By yielding our will to His will, we allow the Lord to care for us.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
