ROOTED & BUILT UP!

Colossians 2:7 – Devotional

Colossians 2:7

“Rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

As we read the words, rooted – established – abounding. It reminds me of watching crew members on the International Space Station eating red lettuce that they had grown in space. It was the first time edible food had been grown in space. I hasten to point out, it was not angel food. (That was a bad pun!)

In the walk as believers, we are called upon to be rooted. That means we are to base our growth on the Word of God. It is not the wisdom of God that will allow us to grow, but our willingness to be rooted in that wisdom. When we rely on human wisdom and reasoning we will lack the life-giving spiritual nourishment.

From being rooted in God’s Word we will become established in the faith and will abound in it with thanksgiving. That is a fantastic truth that is made evident in and through our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is the time to evaluate our personal life. After accepting Jesus as our personal Savior and Lord, are we rooted deep in His will for our life? Are we being established in Him to the point of abounding with thanksgiving? If not, begin now!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

O COME, O COME EMMANUEL! – Isaiah 7:14 Devotional

O COME, O COME EMMANUEL!

Isaiah 7:14 – Devotional

Isaiah 7:14

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Emmanuel.

The name Emmanuel is interpreted “God with us.” There are many Old Testament prophecies of the coming Messiah. The encouragement that His coming entails is that God Himself will descend and make His appearance to save the people from their sins. Thank God He has come!

The “Day-Spring” referenced in the third stanza below is an encouragement for us as we travel through the long and dark times of our life. I am overjoyed that God has cared so much for us that He has sent salvation to us by grace through faith!

O COME, O COME EMMANUEL!

O come, O come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny
From depths of Hell Thy people save
And give them victory o’er the grave
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai’s height,
In ancient times did’st give the Law,
In cloud, and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

THORNS IN THE FLESH! – 2 Corinthians 12:7b Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

THORNS IN THE FLESH!

2 Corinthians 12:7b – Devotional

2 Corinthians 12:7b

“There was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

We sometimes rush to the aid of a loved one or friend who is experiencing some type of pain in their life. The problem is that God may be allowing that individual (or ourselves), to endure discomfort or hardship in order to bring about His glory in the midst of their pain.

In today’s Scripture, the apostle Paul shares that he was given a thorn in the flesh. Many have tried to guess what that thorn was, but if it was important, Paul would have told us. In not naming the thorn, we are better able to relate to the thorn that we may have in our own life

Paul learned the secret of the thorn so he could see that the Lord’s strength and power was made perfect in weakness. We may strive to be perfect and have it all put together, but remember the secret of the thorn. It is in our weakness that the Lord’s strength is more and most clearly demonstrated. Paul was so excited about this discovery that he delighted in his weaknesses, insults, and hardships, so Christ could be seen most clearly.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
