FREEDOM TO SERVE!

John 14:1-3 –  Devotional

John 14:1-3

“Listen fellow believers: God has called us to freedom; but be sure you do not use this wonderful freedom to live in the pleasures of the flesh, but to serve each other.”

As a boy I seemed to have had an aversion to do as I was told. Thankfully I grew up in an age when the board of education was applied to the seat of knowledge. It seemed as if I was more skilled at evading responsibility than doing what was required. Discipline resulted!

There came a day (I can’t recall exactly where and when it was), that I had the brilliant idea of doing something beneficial without being told. My parents were stunned by my actions and to see the pleased look on their faces brought joy to me as well. I began to do it more often!

All too often people have the mistaken idea that serving the Lord is burdensome and a drag. In their mind they picture a Christian as someone who is dull, boring and lifeless. That is so sad!

We have been called to serve the Lord with joy and gladness. So why are we so often dragging around like a hound dog lazing in the shade. We need to serve the Lord in the beauty of the new life He has given us. WE ARE FREE TO SERVE!

WITH THE LORD! – John 14:1-3 Devotional

WITH THE LORD!

John 14:1-3 –  Devotional

John 14:1-3

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Yesterday afternoon I received a call from Mary Hunter, the wife of my long-time friend and our webmaster, Larry “Buck” Hunter. It was a call that I had been expecting, but at the same time, dreading.

Mary shared the news that “Buck” had gone to be with the Lord. As I have been in prayer for Mary and the three daughters, I have once again been reminded that for the believer, death is not the end, but the beginning of a paradise with God.

The promise which God gives us is such that the Apostle Paul stated that he would much prefer to be with the Lord, but as long as he was allowed to live he would be the Lord’s faithful servant.

I want that to be my purpose for as long as the Lord allows me to continue my ministry here on earth. I am homesick for heaven, but the Lord still has given me fruitful ministry here on earth. I will be as faithful as I know how, but more and more I long to be with the Lord and those who have gone before me.

GOD’S PROMISE! – Isaiah 41:10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S PROMISE!

Isaiah 41:10 –  Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“Do not fear for I am with you; do not be depressed, for I am your God. I will be your strength and your help in the time of need and will hold you up by the power of My righteousness.”

Did you know that fear paralyzes? Perhaps most of us have heard the expression, “He froze like a deer in the headlights.” Think of the most frightful experiences of your life and you may be able to relate to that poor animal.

Satan uses fear to keep believers from doing the things that the Lord has called us and empowered us to accomplish. Satan causes us to imagine that we will be scorned if we obey the Lord, so we tend to stare into his headlights and do nothing.

In the midst of our fear we are given this powerful verse in Isaiah 41:10. There are two things that we are instructed to do: don’t fear and don’t be dismayed. The Lord promises that He will strengthen us and help us and uphold us with His righteous right hand. The right hand is the symbol of ultimate divine power.

I challenge you to let the Lord fight your battles with the enemy. Trust Him completely and know that He never leaves you or forsakes you but will always be with you.
